Mónica Brito Vieira is a lecturer in the Department of Politics, University of York, and a Visiting Fellow at Murray Edwards College, University of Cambridge. She is the author and co-author of two books on the history and theory of modern representative government, The Elements of Representation in Hobbes (2009) with Brill and Representation (2008) with Polity (co-authored by David Runciman). She has published in some of the top journals in her field, namely the Journal of the History of Ideas and History of Political Thought. She is currently working on the performative dimensions of political representation, especially the case of self-authorised representatives.
