Q: I’ve never had kids but I have a high cervix. What size should I get?

submitted by Valentine - 3 years ago
  • A: The height of the cervix does matter because the smaller and/or shorter cups can move and get stuck or 'snug' near a high cervix. The smaller size may cause aggravation when you need to remove it....you may need to bear down and squat a lot while removing a size small cup. (Remember to pinch the base/bottom of the cup and don't 'yank' the stem when you remove.) I would say get the size regular for a high cervix plus normal or heavy flow. You could get the small size if your flow is very light and you don't mind 'going fishing' for the cup. (I am a beginner with cups so don't quote me on this... I heard a lot of personal stories about smaller cups being hard to remove. They don't always sit near the opening, and in many people's experience they will move up when exercising and sleeping. Some people use two different size cups for different phases of the menstrual period or one size for sleeping and another for exercising or heavy days. I wish there was a definitive final answer for those who don't know what size to get, but everyone's bodies are different. I say research the reviews, and decide based on cup dimensions and your personal flow.

submitted byAcidWashDenimConnoisseur - 2 years ago
  • A: Most brands do sell a different size for women who have given birth and for women who have not, but this brand's sizes work differently. The sizes for this particular brand are based on capacity. I feel like selling one for light to medium flow and medium to heavy flow is just marketing - why would anyone choose one that held less? Anyway, the height of your cervix doesn't matter for menstrual cups because it will sit very close to the vaginal opening. I've been using them for 11 years and I would never go back.

Too stiff/hard plastic/not flexible

This cup is extremely stiff and uncomfortable. I have been using a menstrual cups for several years and have always been satisfied, but wanted to try something new this time around. This cup is so stiff and the material so hard that it constantly gets stuck or rips out when I try to ease it or causes my insides severe pain because there’s not enough flexibility. Not sure what went wrong with the manufacturing with this product, but I will never be purchasing this brand again.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I ordered my first Saalt cup in an effort to be more environmentally friendly. I now love it for so many more reasons than just that! It's more comfortable, less leaks, no odor, fewer changes. The cup itself came with great instructions for use and care that were very helpful for a first time user and they have great customer service if you have any additional questions. I highly recommend Saalt and only wish I had switched to period cups sooner!

Seriously what have I been doing my whole life! I have always been scared to try a menstrual cup, but wanted to make the switch so I decided to give this a try. I watched YouTube videos to help visualize how to use this. Once I figured it out I have had zero problems. I can put this in and go about my day without having to worry about leaks or smells. This is amazing!

Eh. I liked Cora brand better

3 out of 5 stars
CS Collett - 14 days ago, Verified purchaser
I was using a Cora cup for several months and then it broke. They didn’t have it in stock so I tried the Saalt cup instead. I liked that it wasn’t as flimsy feeling, but sometimes that makes it a little difficult to put in. Also, I’ve had way more leaks with the Saalt cup than I did with the Cora. And it’s not overflowing—like it’ll leak and very little will be in the cup. I’ve adjusted it and done everything to ensure it was placed correctly. Not sure what the problem is but I’ve been having to use a pad or liner most days to catch the leaks. Maybe not the best option for heavy flow.

Somewhat traumatic to remove

Insertion was okay. I had a bit of trouble getting it in at first, but then I realized I could feel the stem and didn't like that. So I struggled a bit to take it out, then cut off the stem to the lowest line. Very bad decision. I got the cup in and realized it had gone pretty far up. I tried to take it out and it wouldn't budge. I started panicking and ended up squatting on the floor desperately trying to get the cup out. The cup got a bit rotated and the remaining bit of stem caused the cup to get further stuck. After 15 minutes of sheer terror I managed to break the seal on the cup and pinch the end, then finally got it out. I will never use this cup again, it went straight in the trash after that.

No Leaks!

I bought the Saalt cup, size regular, and it was my first time trying a menstrual cup. I watched all the videos and read all the instructions and felt like I had the hang of it quickly. It was very easy to use and easy to remove by bearing down to push it down and make it easier to reach. I had no leaks and it was so nice to not worry about pads or liners!! My only issue was that it was hard for me to urinate with the cup in, so I had to remove it more often but it was still worth it to me. I recently switched to the Saalt disc which fixed that problem! But both Saalt products have been completely leak-free for me from day one!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This was the first menstral cup I’ve used, and honestly it had potential. I was more let down because the quiz to find which cup would work best for you 100% let me down. The site said a small cup would work best for me, and with my flow, in the 5 times I’ve tried, I bled through within 3 hours, 3 times. So that kinda sucks, hoping to get a larger sized one soon, hopefully that will work better.

Period after 10 years

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have had an IUD on and off for 10 years. Just recently I was able to finally get rid of it and started towards a healthier life for my mind and body. Before I had gotten my IUD I struggled with HORRIBLE periods and was truly terrified to start having one again after my removal. I knew that I wanted to stop using tampons and give Cup a try as I started to get my period again. I was honestly terrified to try the cup but once I placed it I couldn’t believe how great I felt. How great it felt being able to move and not feel pain, to be able to still live my active life as a yogi and mother of three without feeling inconvenienced by my period and what came along with it. I’ve now had my second period and I can whole heartedly say that I recommend to is product to everyone now. I love it so much and truly truly believe it is the reason (along with my lifestyle changes) having a period brings me no pain or stress. I haven’t had one cramp since I started using my cup and truly believe it’s because I’m not giving my body a tampon anymore. I need more than one that’s for sure so I can just have them everyone just in case but 1000000% recommend and just thank you so much for offering such a great product!

Tricky to Use

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was excited about the eco friendliness of this option, however it didnt work for me. It leaked, and I always "felt it" down there. I also found it cumbersome to change and clean while I was in public restrooms versus at home. I am sure it is a great option for some, but unfortunately was not a solution for me.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Love my Saalt Cup! I've ran 7 mile wearing it and didn't feel a thing, so glad I gave it a chance. I had some trouble at first, but the Saalt team helped me out. My cup was not up far enough, that was it. I stopped wearing tampons about a rear ago and noticed a huge difference, no cramps. Now, after wearing the Saalt cup for 2 period cycles, I'm very happy to report no cramping. I don't have to but pads or tampons, which is wonderful!

I like how easy it is. I was nervous that it would be complicated, or the inevitable cleaning, it’s actually not that bad. I have a heavy flow so this larger one works really well. I like “C fold” it’s like a little suction cup. It’s pretty neat. Learning curve is minimum. Way better then tampons and pads! Although while I was getting the hang of it, I did use a pad still for new use leaks.
