This is an outstanding new album from Santana featuring Spanish singer, Buika, as guest vocalist throughout. “Africa Speaks” was produced by Rick Rubin, one of the top producers over the past thirty years. Santana features Carlos Santana (of course) on guitar, his wife Cindy Blackman Santana on drums, longtime percussionist Karl Perazzao, veteran bassist Benny Rietveld, Tommy Anthony on guitar, David K. Mathews on keyboards and Andy Vargas on backing vocals. Carlos’ son, Salvador Santana makes an appearance on keyboards, as well. “Africa Speaks” comes out on the heals of the band’s EP, In Search Of Mona Lisa, which was released in January 2019. The album is the finest one from Santana in many, many years, possibly as far back as “Spirits Dancing In The Flesh” and/or “Milagro”, both I ssued in the early 1990s. African music has always had a place in Santana’s exotic musical stew. On “Africa Speaks”, it comes out front and center (not unlike their 1982 album, “Shango”).

I'm a big Santana fan since the mid '60s when they were playing the Fillmore East on Tuesday nights. This is my second favorite album since Abraxas.
