Q: If I bought the Schwinn Men's Ascension 29" Mountain Bike for Store Delivery can someone assemble at the Target Store?
submitted by Bike assembly - 3 years ago
A: They can assemble it, but beware. Skill of the assembler varies greatly. Out of the five stores in my area, there's only one I'd trust to do it properly, based on examination of preassembled bikes in the store. Things like misaligned and misadjusted brakes, derailers that aren't tuned properly, and more. You're better off picking it up and taking it to a local bike shop for assemnly and tuning.
submitted by1WhoConquers - 2 years ago
A: Yes, they assemble it.
submitted bySS - 3 years ago
A: Hello there! Yes, it is possible they can assemble in store but it depends on your local store. It is best to reach out to them and see if they have a bike assembler available. Thank you for reaching out!

Q: What brand and level of derailleur (front/rear) and shifter ? This would seem like basic information that the manufacturer should include. I could not find this bike even at the Schwinn site. Thanks,
submitted by Whats UP - 2 years ago
A: The previous answer is incorrect. This bike does not have a Shimano derailleur and drive train. It is a generic brand labeled 'Pro Rush'. It is not fantastic, but it does have a clutch switch you can flip to increase chain tension so it does not slap around on rough terrain.
submitted byAscensionowner - 2 years ago
A: Hi there! This model has a Shimano rear derailleur system. Bikes sold exclusively through retailers will not be found on the Schwinn website. Hope this helps!

Q: Is there a kickstand or do I have to buy one?
submitted by Grace - 3 years ago
A: Hi Grace,
The Schwinn Ascension does not come with a kickstand. There are many after market adult kick stand options that you can purchase at Target that will fit this bike.
Thanks, Alex
submitted bySchwinnCustomerSupport - 3 years ago
Brand expert
A: There is most likely not a kickstand because it is a bigger bike and would probably fall off

A: Hi Don: This model has a 110L chain.

So I got the bike, and rode it to and from school for a little bit, and then I was riding one day and turned and my chain snapped, at this point the bike had been ridden only a couple times. I have been working on fixing, otherwise it rides while, and stops while.

I got this bike for my husband to ride around the neighborhood with the kids and he seems to like it. Assembly was easy. It took a little time to adjust everything to his liking. It has a very sleek design and is a smooth ride. His only complaint was that he wished the seat had a little more padding.

If you're in the market for a high-quality and reliable mountain bike, the 29 M Ascension Black is definitely worth considering. I've been using this bike for several months now, and I have to say that I am thoroughly impressed with its performance, durability, and overall design. First of all, the build quality of this bike is exceptional. The frame is made of high-quality materials that feel solid and sturdy, and the components are all top-of-the-line. I never have to worry about the bike feeling unstable or falling apart, even when I'm tackling tough terrain or hitting high speeds. Speaking of tough terrain, the 29 M Ascension Black really shines when it comes to performance. The suspension system is top-notch, absorbing bumps and shocks with ease and making for a smooth and comfortable ride. And the 29-inch wheels provide excellent traction and stability, even on rough or uneven surfaces. But what really sets this bike apart is its versatility. Whether I'm hitting the trails or cruising around the city, the 29 M Ascension Black performs exceptionally well. It's lightweight and easy to maneuver, making it perfect for navigating tight turns or dodging obstacles. And the responsive brakes and precise shifting ensure that I always feel in control and confident on the road. Overall, I would highly recommend the 29 M Ascension Black to anyone in need of a high-quality and reliable mountain bike. With its exceptional build quality, top-notch performance, and versatile design, it's a great investment that is sure to provide years of enjoyment and adventure.

I love bikes. I saw this and have really wanted a 1x drivetrain. This bike has a lot of potential but needs massive work to get there. Out of the box I had a bent front rotor and a needs to adjust and retighten everything. The frame is good, the forks just adequate. The tires are crap. I worked so hard to just pedal down the road with them. After replacing the tires and pedals things started to get better. I replaced the brake levers and handlebars with upgrades too. After replacing and tweaking a lot of parts it’s a good bike. You may want to spend a little more money if you intend to just ride a bike with the stock parts.

The bike was pretty easy to put together except for adjusting the guide chain. It takes a couple of times to get it into adjustment. It’s very light weight for as big as it is and I really like the color scheme. It seems well built. Smooth ride and shifts up and down good. Overall I’m satisfied with this bike.

The 29 m Ascension Black mountain bike is very nice looking . It has Seven speeds also mechanical disc brakes . The bike decals really set the bike off . Giving added class and quality to the look . The bike has adjustable seat and handlebars . This is a great help when enjoying the bike .Setting the seat and handlebars to ones comfort level is a added plus . The 29m is wonderful for a taller rider . When riding it is a smooth and safe to handle .The kick stand works well to hold the bike in a upright position . I can not say enough about the tires this bike has . Very good thickness and tread . They will need to be aired up after you put them on the bike . The bike is put together to last . The hand brakes work very well. Not over strenuous to mash and not to loose either .There are reflectors on the pedals which is great for safety . It took about One hour to assemble the bike . Also there is a limited lifetime warranty for as long as you own the bike .

This bike is a very good bike and the only schwinn that outbeats this bike is the schwinn axum dp. Nothing wrong with this bike and has alot of pros the cons. Pros: Pro Rush Gear , Adujstable Seat, Brakes Disc, Cables are hidden and hole for drop post. Kick Stand, Very good frame Cons: Fork is ok but could be better for this price point,No drop seat but minor. Overall a very good bike to keep.

I bought this bike back in COVID shortage days. There wasn’t a bike to be bought retail for 30 miles less you wanted junk and resellers were gouging for 200% on new bikes. I happened to get lucky and snatched it up online. I knew what I was getting into when I bought. Big Box Bike isn’t going to be winning any races. But every review said this is Schwinn’s jump into the higher end for bikes like this (see the Axum with dropper post!). Mine was solid out of the box because I didn’t let Target morons build it. That said I’m apparently not good at dialing it in. It is an upgraders bike. I put some great aluminum pedals that will eviscerate you lower leg if you’re not careful. The seat sucks and I put a pad on it to take care of it in the short term. I didn’t like the angle and height of the stem, so I initially got an aluminum stem and a riser and the riser just would not hold on to the forks. So I got an adjustable stem and angled it way up and it cut down on shoulder fatigue. Brakes work great though I managed to somehow get something in the caliper that gouged and bent the back pad. New breaks from and back and it’s all good. I didn’t like the gearing, so I bought a cheap three ring crankset and then a derailleur. Theoretically, it’s awesome to have 21 instead of 7 gears that you can put pedal downhill. I just need to get the front derailleur to work properly. And it won’t be expensive to upgrade to a mid range crankset if it works out. If I go back to a single ring up front it will be with more than the 29 or 30T up front and I’ll look at replacing the wheel set and shifter up to an 11 or 12 speed. Right now I anticipate my ride and put it on the ring I want manually. The chain slaps all over so I put a chain guide that attaches to the frame. It’s not perfect, but it helps. May need to shorten the chain by a link or two. I replaced the handlebars and grips. The handlebar probably dropped 2-3 lbs off the weight by switching to aluminum. And with a slight rise they look better. You might ask why I bought it if I’m gonna change everything. One, I had no choice and I really needed a good starter bike. Two, everywhere I read, even in here, it a bike for people while like to monkey with it. Plus I like to customize where I can. It’s decent to start with, and it’s better now, and the upgrades I made have been cheap. Everything I did has been hovering around $125. All of it lower end upgrades to see how they feel and if I like it I can keep that in mind if I go get a bike I want rather than one I have to take. If I had a choice I’d go with a 27.5”. The I’m 5’11” and it just a little awkward getting on and off and straddling it. Especially if I have the seat at the correct height. But, maybe a cheap dropper post will do the trick there. I do like the ride and the speed of it when i really get into the upper set of gears going down hill, usually wondering why I haven’t bought a helmet yet. When all is said and done, it will not be an Ascension. It’ll be a Frankenscension. But it’ll be a sleeper and surprise some die hard riders.

there was nothing I liked!!! I bought it and not even 2 months later the back tire came off. I thought maybe it wasn't put on right so I switched it. my son only rode it twice and the back tire came off again. So I took it to get it fixed. Paid 40 dollars. A week later chain came off. I'm done putting money on this bike.

Never really liked Schwinn, even as a kid. But this bike is proving to be OK its gotta little weight to it but seems lighter then my GTs...Keeping in mind that Target employees ate in no way shape or form Bicycle Mechanics and unlike myself probably don't enjoy the assembly process like i do I had to replace the plastic pedals, there was a loose crank bearing rolling around inside the frame and the feats were upside down and on the wrong side of the front forks the handle bars were upside down as well so i replaced ball bearings with sealed bearings turned up the bars and pit shifters on correctly Swapped out the seat for a more comfortable one just got the quick release axl for rear tire...Ill add pics later if i can but Now this bike aint so bad just woukd like to have had 175mm or even better would be 180mm cranks

Bought this bike for my 16 year old, and I am afraid to let him ride it. After 1 month, the handlebars began to twist opposite of the way he was turning them. I tightened them with an allen wrench, only for the same thing to happen 2 weeks later. The front wheel came off. at the same time the handlebars became lose the first time. We had that put back on. About 2 weeks later, the back wheel came off while he was riding. This is a complete waste of money

Bike requires some setup however, once adjusted runs great! Most of the issues people are writing about come down to poor setup and adjustments. Have put about 200 miles of intermediate level trails on this bike with minimal issues. Seat isn’t amazing but it’s a MTB so you aren’t really sitting much. Front fork works ok for light to intermediate trails. Brakes and derailleur needed lots of tuning to get set correctly but afterwards shifts and stops great! Anyone who buys be ready to do some wrenching and you’ll be pleased with the results. Ditch the reflectors, kickstand, dork disc, and tire tubes right away. You don’t need that stuff on trails.
