About this item
Most approaches to fat loss begin with a calorie restriction, so let's take a brief look at what happens in a typical calorie restricted cycle.
When you restrict your calorie intake, your body fat will reduce, however, after some time your metabolic rate slows and so does the rate of fat loss. This is referred to as metabolic down-regulation.
There are two reasons why this happens: First, your body is smart and when it senses a limited food supply, it panics. Second, as your body fat reduces, your body will attempt to hold onto what's left, and this is partially due to a hormone
called Leptin, but essentially this is just how our body's survival mechanism works
Once this down-regulation happens and fat loss slows, it is typical for a dieter to reduce their calories further.. As your body has already down-regulated your metabolism, reducing calories further not only serves to promote a further down-regulation, but because the calorie deficit is already severe, your body will start to enter starvation mode in order to prepare for potential famine.
The more severe the calorie restriction, the more your body down-regulates, the less fat your lose and... you get my point. IT'S A vicious CYCLE
