This is a fantastic expansion! It has everything you need to play without even purchasing the base game and it pairs very well with the base game. I think all four factions were very well thought through with great, new, unique focuses.
I was looking into a lot of Smash Up expansions, and I'm glad I chose to buy this one!
My husband and I host a monthly game night and we enjoy playing games with our roommates throughout the week. This expansion was a great way for us to add more playability to one of our favorite games we already like to play. The ghost was my husband's favorite faction to play they took a little bit of time to figure out how the ghost will work together with the other factions but they have ended up being his favorite. He liked them because they had great power combos by playing his cards. The bear calvary is another great faction in this expansion they added another power house that can really target your opponents. The game does not have overpowering cards, which makes it fun and enjoyable when playing against other people and factions. In all this was a good expansion to add more factions to smash with the orginal base set.
Awesome Level 9000 adds four factions to the core set for even more smashing fun. The factions' abilities are... Bear Cavalry (bear-riding Russians) -- Move (and destroy) opponents' minions. Ghosts -- Discarding cards from one's own hand (good for chain reactions). Killer Plants -- Playing extra (weak) minions, multiple moves in one turn. Steampunks -- Playing actions on bases, retrieving actions from discard pile. In the many games my gaming group has played, we find that all of these factions are equally enjoyable to use, with no faction having more power than the others (at least by themselves!).
