Q: Does it shut off after a couple of hours? Can this be used as a night light?

Q: Does this projector have a relatively accurate portrayal of the stars and does it show the constellations or is it just random stars?
submitted by kdu - 2 years ago
A: No, no accuracy. No constellations. You can see an axis of symmetry where they tiled a pattern to make the stars.
submitted byLily - 2 years ago
A: The stars are an accurate map of the northern sky. It does not show the lines connecting the stars to make the constellations.

My son loves this for bedtime. It just sits on his dresser and he gets to choose if he's going to fall asleep to the stars or a planet. I like it because it turns off automatically after a couple hours. He got it for an early Christmas gift so we've had it for over a month now. No issues and haven't needed to change the batteries yet, and he uses it every night.

we received this as a gift for my daughter and she loved it. it's a nice projector. it can roatate image (not the slide) while projecting it. images were blurry when we first turned on the projector but after playing with the settings, it turned out clearer than before. it comes with 3 discs. so far we tried only one disc. the only 2 drawbacks are, the slide doesn't rotate by itself, you have change the image manually and it shuts off automatically after 15 minutes. but overall fun toy.

The star portion broke within two weeks of it being gifted. The image portion is fine, but the projected stars won’t turn on now. Obviously didn’t expect it to be super fancy due to the price but I have a very disappointed little guy now that it’s stopped working.

I was a bit nervous about buying this product for my daughter for Christmas. My biggest concern were the complaints that the pictures were blurry. I bought it hoping that it wouldn't be too bad and found that the part that projects the picture has a focus feature by turning it. My 8 year old love this thing and uses it before bedtime. As for the other bad reviews, they must have not realized that it had this feature.

This is a great projector for young space lovers! There is a focus knob on it so that you can clean up each image. The package insert also comes with some facts about the planets so that you can talk about it with your kiddo! See the photos. 2 with no lights on. And one with a background light on. You can still see it okay with lights on!
The star patter projected is not actually the northern sky as advertised. There was a mirror plane where some of the star patters were projected twice. Perhaps mine was defective, but not really what was advertised. Seems increidbly cheap.

The good thing is that it's inexpensive, however, I'd rather spend more to get a quality one. The images are poor and you can only see one planet/item at a time as others have mentioned.

Battery operated and has 3 modes. Image, dots and dots and image. You can also make the dots rotate. This comes with 3 disks of images. Unfortunately the images are blurry. Laying on our bed with my son you can make out the space shuttle and astronaut but the ISS and satellites are a little less obvious. I can see using this as a night light as well. For the price I don’t regret the purchase, but it will be something that will end up being replaced eventually.

I bought 2 of these, one for my daughter & one for a friend. They both love space so I was very excited to have found this. Unfortunately, this is not a very high quality projector as the images are too blurry & small. I'm actually embarresed to have given as a gift. What a disappointment. It could have been so much better.

Blue LED is such a bad choice

PA - 4 months ago
Blue light?! Why on earth would you make the led blue?! A warm white would be such a better idea. Very low quality, you cannot focus the dots that they call stars so if you set it on the floor and shine on the ceiling the “stars” are dim fuzzy dots about 1/2” big, The “projector” ,on the other hand, is focusable and you can get crisp images but very small only about 16” diameter in the middle of the fuzzy dots. The “high resolution” images are standard resolution at best, but they do show up in a very dark room. The dots only show up in a blacked out room though. The slides they include are ok, all the planets and some moons a few nebulae and some satellites shuttle and astronaut. Just wish the stars looked like stars not big blurry blue dots. My 4yo wants to keep it but otherwise I would return for sure.

save your money and don't ruin Christmas for your future US Space Force Astronaut. This was a thoroughly disappointing product and I have considered asking Smithsonian if they had a quality control on this product before they slapped their name on it. The lights are so dim, I couldn't even get the room dark enough to see. Also, I thought the constellations were going to be more realistic, but they are just in a grid shape. And the cheap plastic construction makes it look like a preschooler toy. do yourself a favor and just spend couple extra bucks and get one that has more features. I might even suggest just getting a video projector and play a slideshow of galaxy pictures or play nasa's live feed. I was frustrated for spending my money and listening to what seem to be canned reviews.

I am glad I purchased this, it's been sitting in my favorites for a while but I was hesitant to purchase because of the negative reviews. I didn't find the photos to be blurry, and I didn't have problems tilting or angling the projector. The slides don't turn themselves but I bought this for my son and he likes to turn the slide himself anyway. I'll include photos but it's still light out so keep that in mind you can still see pretty well. Also there is multiple option settings Still picture only Still pictures with still stars Still stars Only Rotating stars Still picture with rotating stars
