Q: What tools are required to put the hoop together?

submitted by Ryan Boutin - 2 years ago
  • A: The recommended tools and materials are a tape measure, wood board (scrap), sawhorse or support table, hammer or mallet, safety glasses, step ladder (8ft.), two of each (7/16", 1/2", 9/16" and 3/4") wrench or socket set. • A: 2 ratchet with the socket size mentioned above and I recommend a power tool for the last step in tapping the screws in for the board guard.

Q: Is it too big for 5ft kids to dunk on.

submitted by - 3 years ago
  • A: You can do dunk like activities, but we recommend no excessive hanging on the rim.

submitted bySpalding - 3 years ago
    Brand expert
  • A: I doubt a 5' tall kid could dunk on a 7.5' rim.

    submitted byAndy M - 2 years ago

Q: Does anyone have advice for putting it together, the pole to the base? Stuck on that step.

submitted by BZ - 4 years ago
  • A: Please contact our Customer Service team at 1-800-558-5234 or via email (spaldingcustomerservice@custserv.fotlinc.com) for additional assistance.

  • A: Get a sawhorse or two, lay the pole on the sawhorses and flip the base on end (vertically) to then screw into the pole. Much easier.

    submitted byAndy M - 2 years ago

Q: Does this hoop have the break away rim?

submitted by Lisa - 5 years ago
  • A: Yes. It does have a breakaway/spring that allows the hoop to "breakaway" or flex when you dunk.

    submitted byAndy M - 2 years ago
  • A: No, it doesn't have a breakaway.

submitted byLW - 5 years ago

Q: What is the warranty from the manufacturer? What does it cover and what does it not cover

submitted by please answer soon - 6 months ago
  • A: Our Spalding 50" Polycarbonate Portable Basketball Hoop comes with a limited 5-year warranty on the backboard and a 1-year warranty on all other parts. I've included a link below that will provide additional information on our Spalding warranties. https://www.spalding.com/customer-service/general-help/warranty-information.html

Q: I'll need to make it small to fit through a walkway. Can the rim adjust all the way down?

submitted by CPete - 7 months ago
  • A: The lowest height the rim can be lowered to is 7.5', which will make the total height of the hoop approximately 10.5'. If you have any other questions, please contact our Spalding Customer Care Team at 1-800-558-5234 for further assistance.

I wish I could give this zero stars. After 6 hours this still doesn't look right and is a defective product with poor design. Target should provide a refund for offering this garbage.

Thankfully I was able to reach out to the manufacturer and explain to them my problem and they sent me a replacement.. The construction is solid enough for the price. However the polycarbonate only lasted two Indiana winters before cracking.

The hoop is very nice but assembly is a joke. Half of the pre drilled holes do not fit. Assembly took hours. I’m so glad it is over.

Easy Assembly When Ready

4 out of 5 stars
Would recommend
kcconk - 2 months ago, Verified purchaser
I assembled this today by myself with the help of 2 sawhorses. The instructions were very explanatory. One of the best reviews I read was to be prepared, take your time and have the tools ready. I put in 250 lbs of sand in the base and added two 60 lb sand tubes on top. I only have 4 stars since it just up but it seems very sturdy. Looking forward to warm weather and long evenings on driveway with the kids.

The instructions weren’t as confusing as I read here, but the “kits” containing the hardware were not labeled which made it a little more difficult. I found the spacers for one step in a bag for another step, so I had to disassemble and reassemble an entire section at one point. That being said, I (an out of shape 29 year old female) was able to put this together entirely by myself in about 4 hours. Not too shabby. I’ve been able to shoot around a bit and so far I love it! I haven’t had my own hoop since I was a kid and I’m stoked!

Good hoop...ridiculous setup!

It’s a nice decent quality hoop. Like many others, my biggest complaint is the setup. Just to give you an idea…the instructions say you need a 6ft ladder and a saw horse! It took 3 adults 5 hours to put this thing together. If you’re going to buy this and attempt to put it together yourself, make sure you do it with people you really like because it is a very aggravating process.

Seems sturdy

Bought one similar to this one but it didn't last 6 months before the base and the stabilizer bars snapped. The "mart" or the manufacturer would not accept return and replace. This one seems a lot more sturdy than the previous one. Not to hard to assemble. It took me and my 2 sons ages 10 and 14 3.5 hours to assemble.

We admit, a lot of this could have come already assembled prior to shipping to the customer, like the edges of the backboard or some of the arms held together by a bolt. Instead we shipped it literally completely deconstructed with 30 pages of instructions. We missed the mark here and we apologize. Please purchase one of our other hoops.

This is the worst thing to put together! The instructions are terrible! I would not recommend this to anyone. If it weren't for the fact that this was a Christmas gift for my son I would drag it back to the store for a refund!

I thought people were exaggerating or being dramatic but nope... seriously the most terrible thing I have ever assembled. Not a good time. On top of that I can't get the hoop set at 10' - it will only reach 9.5' with my weight - maybe if I get another adult to help pull it down???? Shouldn't be something I even have to think about. Don't recommend - find another hoop.

Backboard thinner than expected

4 out of 5 stars
BB Dad - 8 months ago, Verified purchaser
Backboard is made of very thin plexiglass (~1/8 inch). I have not had any problems yet, but I feel like it would shatter if you threw the ball to hard at it. Also since it flexes if a ball hits it, does not provide realistic action off the backboard. Looks nice though.

Got this hoop recently on sale and so far it has been worth the buy. I honestly was about to buy a much more expensive hoop but I’m glad I didn’t. Took hubby a few hours to assemble however he had no complaints with assembly. We have it anchored with a few sandbags ontop and it seems to be sturdy without the possibly of falling.

Goal Too Heavy for its Foundation!

ScottL - 11 months ago, Verified purchaser
Pole broke through the foundation on day 1. We had only filled with 150 lb of sand. We tried to rolli it and the pole base busted through the plastic. The pole itself is very heavy and sturdy bur the base is inadequate to hold the weight. 7 hours to put together and broke in 15 minutes!. Do not but this goal! Engineering defect!
