I have Origin Access as it got me a lot of the games I wanted to play and it came with a free early access trial of Battlefront 2. I have fond memories of this series growing up, me and my brother would play the game all day on Saturday. It was our absolute favorite. When I saw the announcement and the demos I was estatic. Finally a Star Wars game that recaptured the fun of this series, especially after the disappointment of Battlefront. First the positives, graphics were amazing even on my outdated Nvidia 660Ti. The campaign had a thrilling opening with a story that sucks you right into the action. Multiplayer was easy to get started with and the maps were massive. Now to the negatives, while the campaign story was exciting at first it quickly became boring, predictable, and uninspiring. I quickly found that I wasn't interested at all in the lead character and didn't care for her story. The multiplayer while looking good was just too big. There were only a couple of close up skirmishes but most the fights took place at a distance leading to uninteresting battles. What really killed this game for me was EA's microtransactions. While EA says they are "working on a better solution," the system they launched with made this game pay-to-win not a matter of skill. As much as I love Star Wars and the original two games in this franchise this is just another disappointing game that I won't be buying. If you are looking for a gift I would recommend something else, there are tons of good games recently released that deserve to be played.
