Description

Only at Target, find the May, 2014, Club Pick "Flat Water Tuesday".

A stunning saga of love, sport, and buried secrets.

Rob Carrey is a successful documentary filmmaker who has returned from a shoot to New York City, where he’s prepared to separate from Carolyn, his long-time love.
But when he finds an invitation to his boarding school reunion in his pile of mail, Rob begins a painful journey into his past—one that will alter the course of his life forever.

Years ago, Rob was a scholarship student at the elite Fenton School, where he became a star member of the rowing team. Generations of Fenton men had led the rowing team, known as the God Four, to victory—and Rob would be no exception.
But as the team’s most important race drew near, and tempers and lusts reached the boiling point, Rob found himself in a do-or-die dilemma: If he sacrifices everything to win he stands to lose everything that matters.
Which is the right path—and where will it lead him and the ones he loves? That is the question at the heart of this deeply affecting novel about what it means to fight for love and victory, in sport and in life.

I think it is worth noting that the bad review was by someone who did not read the book. While there were some swear words in the book, I do not think they were used for no reason. I would hate for someone to miss out on an excellent book due to that review. This was one of the best books I have read in a long time. I think that the writer has a successful career ahead of him.

Great book. Brings both the river and the sport of rowing alive. Loved the characters and the settings.

I always look forward to Target's pick of the month because some of my most beloved books have been discovered through the club. The write up on this book sounded interesting, but when I flipped through the book at the store and saw the author chose to liberally use the "F word" throughout, I was turned off & put it right back on the shelf. I'm not so puritan that I don't expect a few swear words in a book, but I'm not going to willingly subject myself to this kind of language when its totally unnecessary! A truly good author can convey emotion without resorting to this trashy verbiage. Its a mistake on the author's part to think this language is widely used & acceptable to book lovers. Really Target, I think there were other new releases this month that would have treated your reading customers to the standard we've become accustomed to as your "club pick".
