We know there are certain things we must have to survive--food, shelter, and safety to name a few. But there are also aspects of life that truly allow us to be joyful and fulfilled. For popular podcaster and bestselling author Annie F. Downs, fun is close to the top of that list. Few would argue that having fun doesn't enrich our lives, but so much gets in the way of prioritizing it. Tough days, busyness, and feelings that are hard to talk about keep us from the fun that's out there waiting to be found.

With That Sounds Fun, Annie offers an irresistible invitation to understand the meaning of fun, to embrace it and chase it, and to figure out what, exactly, sounds fun to you--then do it! Exploring some research and sharing some thoughts behind why fun matters, she shows you how to find, experience, and multiply your fun. With her signature storytelling style and whimsical vulnerability, Annie is the friend we all need to guide us back to staying true to ourselves and finding the fun we need.

Annie F. Downs is a bestselling author, nationally known speaker, and podcast host based in Nashville, Tennessee. Flawed but funny, she uses her words to highlight the everyday goodness of a real and present God. An author of multiple bestselling books--including Remember God, 100 Days to Brave, and Looking For Lovely--Annie loves traveling around the country speaking at conferences, churches, and events. She also hosts the popular That Sounds Fun Podcast. Annie is a huge fan of bands with banjos, confetti, her community of friends, boiled peanuts, and soccer. I was able to read/listen to an early release of this book when Annie shared about it on her podcast that it was possible. I started it in the morning and read it by the end of the day. I cried when she cried. Laughed my way to tears. Annie is someone who is a friend to all. She is real, the most genuine kind of friend. She talks about hard things, she shows the depths of her heart and shows us how to keep finding the Joy around us. She helps guide us to finding what we find FUN. She asks good questions and wants us to know we all have things in our life that make us say "That Sounds FUN"!

I’m about 1/4 through it so far and I really love it. I love that she invites her friends/readers to fill pages with what sounds find to them and really brings an understanding this longing for Eden that we’ve never been to but long time experience. It might be my favorite one by her yet! She’s reaching my soul with this one folks. lol

Whether you’re a long time AFD reader and listener, or you just thought this cover looked super cute on the Target end cap, this book is for you. Annie’s words are drenched in hope, humor, and Holy Spirit, and it is perfectly timed to usher us in to this year. Such an easy and profound, thought-provoking book. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and you will definitely have fun.

As part of a promotion, I was able to listen to the audiobook early after preordering the book. As anyone who listens to AFD’s podcast That Sounds Fun knows, she is a great storyteller and excellent narrator. The book talks about how it’s good to sit with both the joys and sorrows, the importance of being an amateur, and why we all need something fun in our lives through stories from her life. It’s comforting to hear that it’s okay to have a hobby and be an amateur and not be an expert at it from the beginning. We all need some hobbies and fun in our lives whether it be sports, arts, gardening, etc. in order to rest and reset our minds and bodies. A great read (and listen) that would especially be good for someone who is going through a busy season, a new graduate, or anyone.

As we find ourselves going into a year of the coronavirus pandemic, it's becoming more clear that we need love and fun and reminders of Eden in our lives. Annie's stories are strike a perfect chord of being lighthearted and full of vital truth and Scripture. This book was so encouraging to look for a hobby and look for different ways God shows up with love and wholeness in our lives!

Annie F Downs is one of my favorite authors and That Sounds Fun did not disappoint! She is so real in this book and reminds us even though we may be able to hear her on her podcast and see her in shiny photos, she’s still a real person. Just like us. And she sure does know how to have fun! Highly recommend this book!

That Sounds Fun explores the idea of getting back to basics. In today’s current fast paced society, everything we do needs to have a reason or be translated into monetary value. Annie focuses on getting back to the root of fun – for doing something just for the sake of enjoyment. She reminds us that we need hobbies that bring us joy, not hobbies that turn into work. Annie wants us to look for things that bring us happiness and to hold onto that happiness – to treat it as the gift that it is. Yet again, Annie hits this one out of the park. Speaking on something as simple as fun, something that is so obviously needed but so often overlooked. This was an incredibly fast read, as I finished it in just a few hours (and an added bonus got to listen to it in Annie’s voice). Everyone can learn something from reading this one. If you think you’re too busy or if you’re overwhelmed and stressed with the unknown, this is just the book to help bring you back to center and bring you back to fun.
