Book Synopsis

"But... it feels wrong to throw it away!"

If that thought has ever stopped you from decluttering, you're not alone. By midlife, most homes are filled with decades of belongings--your own, your children's, and often your parents' too. The result? Overwhelm, decision fatigue, and a home that no longer fits your next chapter.

The Midlife Edit is your practical, judgment-free guide to decluttering and organizing--without pressure to become a minimalist or achieve a picture-perfect home.

What You'll Learn:

  • A step-by-step decluttering system designed specifically for midlife and beyond
  • How to handle sentimental items without guilt or regret
  • Simple strategies for downsizing, organizing, and letting go
  • How to overcome the emotional blocks that make decluttering feel impossible
  • Practical methods to reduce clutter and maintain an organized home long-term

Why This Book Is Different:
  • Focuses on real-life decluttering, not unrealistic perfection
  • Tailored for midlife, empty nesters, and retirement planning
  • Combines mindset shifts + actionable organizing techniques
  • Helps you prepare your home--and life--for what's next

Written by professional organizer Carrie Powell, this guide gives you the tools to reclaim your space, reduce stress, and move forward with clarity.

Start decluttering today--and make space for the life you actually want.

Review Quotes

"So much stuff accumulates by midlife, but if you're ready for a reset, Carrie will help you take control of your life for good. In this no-nonsense but encouraging book, you'll learn how to make swift decisions while honoring memories--so your time can be spent living rather than managing things."
--Laura Vanderkam, author of Big Time: A Simple Path to Time Abundance

"The Midlife Edit is a beautiful reminder that letting go isn't loss, it's making space for what truly matters. This book gently guides you to release the excess and step into your next chapter with clarity, purpose, and peace."
--Nikki Boyd, organizing expert & author of the Beautifully Organized series

About the Author

Carrie Powell is a professional organizer and decluttering coach. As a midlifer and almost-empty nester, she draws on her personal experience and those of hundreds of clients to inform her approach to midlife decluttering. She has been witness (and coach!) to countless transformations that have changed lives for the better.

Organizing and coaching is a career she found in midlife, after spending 30 years in Fashion Merchandising at Nordstrom. Even though her own home is organized, a pandemic-fueled decluttering frenzy led to a newfound appreciation for the art of curating a lifetime of possessions and its impact on the next life's chapter. Her coaching is rooted in habits, shifting mindsets and building muscle that breaks down overwhelm.
