about this item

Porro, translated from the Italian by Trabbic and Nutt, presents this biography and exploration of the philosophical legacy of Thomas Aquinas. The translators open the book with a note regarding words for "being" or "existence" and their method of translating these concepts, both from Porro's Italian and Aquinas' Latin. Porro takes a chronological approach, going through Aquinas' student years and baccalaureate, the first Paris Regency, returning to Italy and his writings of the Orviento period, time in Rome and creation of the Summa theologiae, the second Paris Regency, and the last Neapolitan period. In this way the book tracks the thinker's movements and exposures to different schools of thought and political environments as it relates to the development of his philosophical views and selection of ideas on which to focus. The primary text is supplemented by several indices, a timeline, and a list of original manuscripts. Annotation ©2016 Ringgold, Inc., Portland, OR (protoview.com)
