Description
Players of all ages can now venture across America by train in Alan R. Moon's Ticket to Ride: First Journey. With a brand new map and simplified rules, First Journey is the perfect way to introduce new players to the game of cross-country travel. Just like in Ticket to Ride, players collect train cards, claim routes, and try to connect cities coast-to-coast. In First Journey, though, routes are shorter, train cards are drawn straight from the deck, and the game ends when one player completes six tickets, claiming the Golden Ticket as their prize. Climb aboard, travelers, your incredible First Journey awaits!

Q: Is this game good for a 9 year old?
submitted by steph - 6 years ago
A: Absolutely! Our daughter is 6 and it's a bit challenging for her but she is able to play with little to no help. It's a GREAT game... one of the few competitive games that forces them to think AND is fun for us (her parents). We love it so much, it's become our standard gift at birthday parties. There is some geography involved, no reading, and strategy (should I save to buy a x or buy y now). Highly recommend it!!!

Loved playing this with our 8-year-old granddaughter. Plus, she’s learning geography, a little history, and strategizing, and she doesn’t even know it! She’s just having fun!

It seemed overwhelming at first, but it only took a couple of turns for my 6 year old to pick up on the game/rules and we had a lot of fun from there. Would definitely recommend to others for kids who like board games

Both of our kids (2&4) love playing this game! It’s straightforward but engaging, and as a bonus they’re learning some basic US geography!

Super fun children’s strategy game that reinforces geography, special reasoning and multi-step planning. We loved the adult version and thought we’d give this a try. It was a little complicated for our 4-year old, but our 7-year old loved it! I do like that the cities also have an image for the younger kiddos that can’t read yet.
SO FUN

We got this game as a gift and we LOVED it. It's so much fun. It helps learning a bit of geography and strategy, while still being simple enough for kids. Our 7 year old is able to play it by herself. Our 4.5 year old needs some help, but is still able to play with us and have fun. The game can take a while to play, so either make sure you have about an hour, or just shorten how many tickets you need to complete to win. We loved it so much, we bought one to give as a gift ourselves!

Great game! We bought this as an intro to the regular game, but too easy for a 8 year old, and we got bored. So definitely buy for the recommended age! We enjoy the regular version.

Great for children! I purchased this for my nephew and he was excited to play it with family. His younger sister was able to play teamed up with one of the adults too. Clear rules and not too long either! It took about 30 minutes to play a game.

My kids love this game! My 6 and 8 yr old picked up how to play pretty quickly. They still need a little help with strategy but they’re catching on in no time. It takes about 30 minutes to play a game on average. That’s just enough time for their short attention span.
Love it!

Such a fun game! Played the first few times with cards face up until they could understand the strategy but now I can play best two out of three with my 7 yr old. Haven’t introduced to the 5 yr old but think it may still be over his head.

I really enjoy this game as it is great to play with my kids. It is for kids 6 years old and up. Our 6 years old still needs help, but the 8 years old understands the strategy and able to play on her own.

We are avid ticket to ride fans so we picked this up to see if our 6 year old would enjoy. We played it for the first time tonight and she loved it and it was a lot of fun for the adults as well! They did a great job of simplifying the game but keeping the spirit of ticket to ride alive!

Purchased this as a grandparent Christmas gift - each grandchild will receive a game and an invitation to our home a night in January for a meal of their choice! We will also spend the evening playing their new game. We're excited to see how it goes!

My 3 yr old does like game play much but he loves the train. My 8 yr old is obsessed with this game, the rules are simple and there’s a lot of way to win, the whole game after you get the hang of it is only about half an hour, every one is familiar with rules after just one game, great fun for adult and kids. Colorful, sturdy pieces well worth the money.

My husband and I have the adult version and absolutely love playing it. Our daughter (7), always asked to play with us. It was a little complex for her, and she required some guidance. We decided to buy her the first journey version of ticket to ride. It is straight forward and easy for them to win. She asks to play it at least once a day.
