About this item

Villalon and Kagay describe a battle in Spain over the Castilian throne that pitted an Anglo-Gascon force from north of the Pyrenees led by Edward of Woodstock (d. 1376), the Black Prince, son of King Edward III of England (1327-77), against a Castilian army strengthened by allies, volunteers, and mercenaries. In sections on background, the campaign and battle, and the aftermath, they cover intersecting conflicts, three who ruled, a clash of kings, foreign policy and foreign intervention (1365-66), preparations for invasion (1366-67), the campaign (February to 2 April 1367), the Battle of Nájera on 3 April 1367), and defeat from the jaws of victory. Among the appendices are translations of relevant documents and chronicles. Annotation ©2017 Ringgold, Inc., Portland, OR (protoview.com)
