Description

The word “licorice” is actually a corrupted version of its original Greek name Glukurrhiza, which means, literally, “sweet root.” Called “sweet stalk” in Sanskrit and “sweet herb” in Chinese, licorice is deeply loved around the world, not only for its signature, yes, sweetness, but for its role in supporting respiratory and digestive health. We work closely with sustainable wild-collectors from Central Asia to source some of our favorite licorice. We adore this earthy root tea because licorice is simply lovable—and we can’t find a more shining example of everything that makes licorice fine.

First I love licorice in any form...candy, soda...and tea. I use licorice as a sugar substitute especially with teas that might be on the bitter side, and when I have a cough or cold it is perfect!

This is one of my favorite all-time flavors. So many herbal teas are a bit insipid, but this one is definitely not! If you like the flavor of licorice, you will love this tea.

I have been drinking Traditional Medicinals tea for 25 years now. I used to love a formula called Women's Libertea, which was discontinued some years ago. It was primarily licorice with some nice tasting spices, and had a profoundly helpful effect in getting through the afternoon. For decades, this had been "my 2:00 tea." When Women's Libertea was discontinued, I attempted to replicate the formula myself. It seemed impossible. I tried licorice from various sources, tried tinctures or pills, and nothing compared. So when Traditional Medicinals brought out this Licorice Tea, I was overjoyed. They note on the package it's wildharvested by hand in Kazakhstan by a small group of collectors. No wonder I could not find a comparable product elsewhere! I admit that on its own, it's a bit cloyingly sweet. I often combine it with another teabag of another flavor to add some dimension. I usually add stevia to sweeten my teas, but when I drink this I don't add it. It's got the best natural sweetness and finest licorice flavor I have experienced.
