Cat Mac's first collection of poetry, set in Vancouver, B.C. and Mexico, is an autobiographical examination of how she was able to emerge from the trauma of growing up in the 1970s in a household with multiple addictions. Not only emerge, but get out from under the negative influences, come out as a lesbian, and become a healthy, happy poet-singer-songwriter. under the influence won the Milieu's National Emerging Writer's Contest presented by Simon Fraser University.
