About this item

This work presents oral histories of 24 undocumented immigrants living in various American cities and states. Those interviewed come from all walks of life, from maids and laborers to business owners and teachers, and from many countries, including Mexico, China, South Africa, Colombia, Peru, Pakistan, Guatemala, and Cameroon. The interviews were conducted by graduate students in the Creative Writing Program at San Francisco State University, aided by a volunteer team of lawyers, writers, and filmmakers. The book opens with several essays and concludes with about 20 pages of appendices giving background on countries, immigration statistics, and immigration law. A glossary is also included.
