About this item
This four-volume reference is for prepared high school students and up. Material reflects Common Core critical thinking requirements used in high school history courses for document analysis. Primary source documents from 14 conflicts are used to reveal the history of US diplomacy and military conflicts. Students are encouraged to view primary sources with a skeptical mind and awareness of the motivations, biases, and agendas of individual authors and governments. Sections on each conflict include an intro essay to help students grasp context and principles, along with a timeline. Numerous primary source documents are provided for each conflict. Each document is preceded by a one-paragraph introduction on surrounding events, and followed by one-paragraph analysis. Documents do not contain notes within the text. Volume 1 covers the American Revolution, the War of 1812, and the Mexican-American War. Volume 2 covers the American Civil War, the North American Indian Wars, and the Spanish-American War. Volume 3 covers WWI, WWII, the Cold War, and the Korean War. Finally, Volume 4 deals with the Vietnam War, the Persian Gulf War, the Afghanistan War, the War on Terror, and the Iraq War.
