About this item

Bornholdt analyzes Chatton's 14th-century treatment of the future contingency problem, that a future event has a truth value that is unknown to the present. After introducing the history and logic of the problem, he translates sections of Chatton's Reportation super Sententius and Quodlibet that grapple with such aspects as whether the contingency of futures is consistent with God's knowledge of the future, whether the mystery of the divine incarnation was the meriting cause of human predestination, and whether the certainty of revelation of future contingents is compatible with their contingency. He closes with commentary on the texts. Annotation ©2017 Ringgold, Inc., Portland, OR (protoview.com)
