Q: Does this come with a cover?

  • A: This grill does not come with a cover.

Q: What does it weigh? Does it have separate chips and water pan? Can you still BBQ without water pan?

submitted by L - 7 years ago
  • A: Hi! The 18 inch Smokey Mountain Cooker weighs 47 lbs and includes a removable water pan for easy cleaning. We would recommend placing your wood on the bottom rack with your charcoal and using a filled water pan to help regulate the temperature. Thanks!

Weber smoker

I like the way this grill controls temperature. It is well thought out for use. I actually have 2 of these, the 18 1/2” and the 22”. Both work great. The only problem I have had was the thermometer going out on the 22”. I have had it for a couple of years and it has not been used enough for it break. I’m hoping it was just a bad one and not the norm because they are not cheap to replace.

Great smoker with good build quality

This smoker is made really well and holds a good steady temperature. The finish on the smoker feels like it is think and will hold up well. I love that it came with a coating protective cover. The thermometer in the lid is handy, but am unsure if it’s accuracy yet and I’m validating it wil some other probes. It would be nice to have a way to store the lid on the smoker while renting to the food inside like the kettle grills do. It is a bit annoying that I have to put the hot lid on the ground while tending to the food. Also the door used for the coals/wood does not quite fit snug enough, so smoke and air can leak that may eventually cause the temps to fluctuate. All in all though, I am happy with my purchase and believe this cooker can last for many years if taken care of properly.

New but overall good

Easy to assemble and start smoking. Was worried about temp control but with the WSM it was easier to control than I thought. A little more smoke coming out from around the lid than I hoped but will work if needed to minimize gap. Still perfecting my process but overall I am happy with the WSM.

18" WSM Smokes Great

I have been wanting this for years. After 3 cooks, I can confirm that it fits 4 racks of ribs (I may buy the hanging option for larger racks), pork butts, and briskets. It can get tight though...very tight. It is very easy to maintain temp and a little charcoal goes a long way. My only wishes are that there was easy easy to store the lid when opening it and the water bowl/heat shield didn't get in the way when adding wood chunks. Add on accessories will fix this. I do love this thing.

Versatile, simple cooker that produces great results. Lots of fun to try different cooking techniques, wood flavors, and accessories. You can cook low and slow, hot and fast, and even direct heat for things like whole chicken cooks as well. I've managed to make jerkey in this cooker using a charcoal snake to keep the temp very low around 150º-160º.

Using the SMC for the first time today. This smoker is amazing. After adjusting the vents i am able to maintain 230 degrees and it olny took i few tries to get right. I also noticed that aftet 2.5 hours i still had plenty of wood and charcoal. So i really don't have to mess it.

This is a great smoker if you’re just dipping your toes into BBQ. This thing is so easy to use! I’ve done 3 cooks with it so far since the beginning of January and couldn’t be happier! Just get the temps dialed in, and it basically run’s itself. It holds temp like you wouldn’t believe. For the price, you simply cannot beat this smoker.

Easy way to smoke with this Weber Smoker

My Weber SMCS 18” was a Christmas gift from my wife and daughters and it’s the best present ever! Smoking seemed complicated and too much work but after watching some YouTube smoking veterans and following the Weber smoking guide it has been enjoyable and fun. So far I’ve smoked pork tenderloin with hickory , four whole chickens with applewood, and sausage with applewood. For the Super Bowl it will be pork ribs!

The best value smoker there is.

The Weber Smokey Mountain (mine is the 18 inch) is incredibly simple and intuitive to use. I was able to have successful smoked meats such as chicken, pork ribs, and pork butt right from the start and that was a relief as a newbie smoker (but veteran griller). The best part is this is a very popular smoker such that there's tons of information out there on how to use it.

Great smoker when modified.

4 out of 5 stars

This smoker holds temps very well and for a long time but I needed to modify it to suit my needs. With the water pan full and all the vents open this smoker only got to maybe 250 and would not go higher. I removed the water pan and replaced with a home made baffle to prevent too much direct heat to the underside my meat. Then I added another vent to the lid increase air flow. This gives me way more range in temps. Now I can easily run 275-300 for ribs. The middle rack is too close to the coals so it’s not super useful. Also it’s very susceptible to big temp spikes when the lid is off for more than 30sec or so. Once modded and I learned how it runs, I can make some seriously delicious food. I do love it

A satisfying piece of art to own

I wanted to do some meat smoking but did not want a dedicated smoker, as my family is not in love with “heavily” smoked food. My intentions were to lightly smoke homemade summer sausage, briskets, and whole chickens. So far, I’m learning the temp control process by trial & error. A few things I wish Weber would have used that are better quality. The gauge could have been larger and better sealed. The door is a little flimsy. Also wish they made the top hinged. Aftermarket parts are fairly expensive.

Weber Smokey Mountain 18”

I currently a Weber kettle and a Weber Genesis but I needed something for a lower temp extended cook. The Smokey Mountain is perfect for that as it holds temps in that 200-275 range that I use for smoking meats. Have cooked pork shoulder, ribs and standing rib roast so far with great results.

Almost perfect

After much researching i chose this as my first smoker. Its 4 out of 5 stars, it has a lot of value but some shortcomings. Out of the box it's pretty much ready to smoke but there's a few details that would be nice. A seal kit helps a lot with smoke loss and temp regulation. And there is no place to set the lid so make sure you have some cardboard or a towel when cooking. Other then that get some levers for the vent wheels and a temp probe.

I purchased this to smoke a turkey for thanksgiving and it came out awesome. Since then I used it 3 other times to smoke salmon, chicken and pork. I’m still playing with the cooking time, but I love the size, large access door, and the vents that allows me to keep a very steady heat flow
