Q: It’s just got the Echo dot with Alexa. Does that mean I can just say Alexa turn the Christmas tree on. If the tree is plugged into this? I’m all new to this so forgive me. Do I need to have the echo plugged into this too for it to work like that?

Randomly turns itself off every week

I've had the Wemo plug (2 of them) for over a year now. In the last 3 months, they started randomly turning off and I have to turn them on with the app. This doesn't sound like a big deal, but I have them connected to my security system. It's not only annoying to get alerts that the alarm is switching over to battery mode because the AC connection has dropped, but it's a problem if I'm unable to restart it remotely when not at home There are several threads on Reddit and other sites where Wemo users have posted similar issue "switches turn off randomly" and stating Wemo/Belkin customer service has not been able to provide a fix for it. I'll be replacing this month with Wyze or Leviton

Love that this works with Apple Home. I installed a strip led light in the top of my closet and needed away to turn light on and off since ceiling is 8' high. Remembered I had purchased this for our Christmas tree last year and loved that I was able to turn tree on and off from phone. Liked that last year they were on sale for black Friday who doesn't love a deal.

Almost all of the ones we purchased worked perfectly right out of the box. One would not connect to the internet, and we had to spend 45 minutes on the phone with Belkin to solve. I would stil recommend for the price.

Never finished connection. Using 2.4 wi-fi, it recognized the device and starts the connection process but just continues indefinitely until eventually the light on the smart plug turns off and the app just keeps spinning. I've factory reset the plug, tried it on someone else's wifi/router, and deleted/reinstalled the app and it is still doing the same. Massively disappointed.

My house is setup with Apple HomeKit and the Wemo integrated with no issues. The form factor is great as it leaves the other outlet unobstructed. the only reason it didn’t get 5 stars was because it doesn’t have all of the high end features (e.g. power consumption).

Bought a smart switch 2 + years ago- works great. Bought 2 mini-plugs - won't connect. Trying again, still won't work, and now my smart switch has disappeared in app (but still works). Wants me to use location services - not happening. Guess it's time to look for better technology.

I've had this for a while, yea it's nice... when it works, then when power goes out or wifi goes out, then it's blinking orange light, im fussing with it for hours and hours before it reconnects again... it's absolutely not worth the hassel, DON'T BUY, wait till they fix it or go buy another brand name. I'm at a point i want to throw it in the fire of hell. I've been a long time supporter of belkin since 1998... but now, not so sure anymore

These don’t work at all

I bought three of the mini plug-in devices. I was not able to get any of the 3 set up. They are not visible in WEMO app and Apple home app sees one of them but you can’t schedule on/off times I home, only scenes. Spent hours trying, researched online, talking to tech. Nothing works.

I just bought 2 more of these to replace by 6 mini-switches from wemo -- their newer model. After the newer ones were hardware updated they ceased working reliably using the WEMO app where I had many dozens of rules controlling complex water treatment systems for my Koi, including feeding. I have an eero mesh Wi-fi and the new models can't talk consistently with this network. Can't get through to support and support can't fix the app or the firmware upgrade that doesn't work. It does work with the apple home app just fine. Pure software issue as I am shifting everything to apple home.

We have wasted our money several times on these plugins thinking maybe we had just received a dud, but after having them all work and then suddenly stop working after a few months out of nowhere these are obviously horrible quality products! Buyers beware, just buy yourself a smart lightbulb or something and forego this step of using a smart plugin from Wemo. If I could give 0 stars I would.

So, I've had several of these for about a year now, and they have worked great, and would follow the 'rules' I would set for them, then, one day a plug wasn't recognized by the app. I tried to do a reset, by holding the button down and waiting for the lights to flash as I was supposed to, but it would never re-connect. This ALSO happened with a hard wired light switch that I had to remove and replace with a newer switch since it wouldn't connect or 'factory reset' to the app. I watched YouTube videos and the resources on the Belkin/Wemo website, and could not get the plug or the switch to reconnect. Finally, and with great frustration, I just threw (both of them) away, and bought a 3-pack of plugs, so I'll have spares when I'm sure this will happen again. I don't understand why, and had reset my router many times to attempt to get it to work. So I guess, like anything else, these are disposable--which are expensive to just have to throw away and replace.

After multiple attempts to factory reset, moving to different locations, and reinstalling the app I finally gave up. They gave the app full access to the network in the home app in iOS. To be fair I’m not sure whether the problem is on WeMo’s side or Apple’s but it simply didn’t work
