The bristles are too short & seems kind of flimsy. But my son does have coily/loose curls and this brush did not work at detangling. All I could hear was the scraping sound as it went through his hair & pulled his hair out. That wasn't the goal since wasn't detangling just pulling it out. Maybe I didn't use it right or maybe the hair has to be shorter than 5-6 inches or straight hair.
