Description

About the Book

This special 40th anniversary edition includes 12 new poems and never-before-published drawings by Silverstein, encased in an exclusive metallic-silver ink jacket.

Book Synopsis

Shel Silverstein, the New York Times bestselling author of The Giving Tree, A Light in the Attic, Falling Up, and Every Thing On It, has created a poetry collection that is outrageously funny and deeply profound. Come in...for where the sidewalk ends, Shel Silverstein's world begins. This special edition contains 12 extra poems.

You'll meet a boy who turns into a TV set, and a girl who eats a whale. The Unicorn and the Bloath live there, and so does Sarah Cynthia Sylvia Stout who will not take the garbage out. It is a place where you wash your shadow and plant diamond gardens, a place where shoes fly, sisters are auctioned off, and crocodiles go to the dentist.

Shel Silverstein's masterful collection of poems and drawings stretches the bounds of imagination and will be cherished by readers of all ages. This is a collection that belongs on everyone's bookshelf. Makes a great gift for special occasions such as holidays, birthdays, and graduation.

And don't miss Runny Babbit Returns, the new book by Shel Silverstein!

From the Back Cover

If you are a dreamer, come in,
If you are a dreamer,
A wisher, a liar,
A hope-er, a pray-er,
A magic bean buyer . . .

Come in . . . for where the sidewalk ends, Shel Silverstein's world begins.

Shel Silverstein's masterful collection of poems and drawings is at once outrageously funny and profound. This special edition has twelve extra poems that did not appear in the original collection.

I volunteered to read to my son’s 5th grade class and everything seemed so juvenile for them. Finally, I remembered my favorite author from childhood and decided to read a selection of his funnier poems. This was perfect! The kids kept wanting “one more” and “just one more.” Shel Silverstein never fails.

My daughter has been asking for this, I let her open it before Christmas and she loved it. She said it’s the best present she could ever get. She is 8. She read this at school and fell in love with this.

My daughter just turned 8 and she wanted this book for her birthday! She loves it. The poems are easy enough for her to read and silly enough to keep her entertained! Most pages have fun illustrations.

The book is amazing and that is why I ordered it. Unfortunately, the book arrived with a ripped cover and the inside pages wrinkled. I ordered this as a gift for someone, so I had to actually go to a target while on vacation to exchange it for a non ripped version.

I've loved Shel Silverstein for as long as I can remember and this is my favorite book! I bought it for a baby shower that asked for books instead of cards... It'll be something she can enjoy for years to come!
