I stalked this dress online FOR WEEKS since my store didn't have my size (XS) in any of the colors. Signed up for all the email alerts and couldn't get it ordered fast enough before it would say unavailable again. I finally saw ONE in my size in the lilac color at the store and eagerly snatched it up. When I put it on at home, I realized I did not look like the flowy prairie girl of my dreams, I looked pregnant in a nightgown. If I'd had this dress back when I WAS pregnant, I'd have loved it (looks beautiful on the pregnant woman who reviewed it, which I only just saw). As it stands, that's not the look I would like to go for now. My husband always says he'd think I'm beautiful in a paper sack, and he means it, and even he did a double-take and said "oh" when he saw it - that never happens! It is SO wide - there is so much fabric going across except at the very top, and the cut down each side is very straight and boxy and hides your true shape completely as it swallows you whole. As others said, the armholes are ginormous, the ruffles are as well, it's hard to fit over your head or chest even while unbuttoned with the top part being narrow, and the empire waist just isn't flattering. I will say the dress is super comfy and light - if it hadn't cost as much, I'd have kept it for wearing around the house just for that alone. When I had it on, it felt so good...til I looked in the mirror. It looks very cute on some of the people in the photos, but I'm telling you I got an XS, and it is like a tent when you span it out. I could hide my three kids underneath there. For reference, I'm 125, 5'4".
Target, PLEASE tell me why everything in the women and juniors depts anymore seems to be empire waist like this or no waist! Didn't we learn from bridesmaid dresses over the years that empire waists are not flattering on hardly anyone?? I want to be comfy and all, but everything I've been seeing for quite some time is boxy and shapeless...I want stuff that fits and flatters, not stuff that just hangs there or poofs in odd places or hides my actual body shape completely or looks like I have a fourth child I need to announce. Is this a quarantine thing, or have the fashions of the time turned into hiding your true shape? I rely heavily on Target for clothes, and everything out there right now seems the same.
