Description

- Play as one of six iconic Disney Villains (Maleficent, Ursula, Jafar, Prince John, Queen of Hearts, Captain Hook) in this asymmetrical family game.
- Each Villain has their own board, cards and oversized sculpted mover.
- The game where being the bad guy is a good thing.
- Fate cards allow you to meddle with other Villain's objectives!

You are the Villain! Command your henchmen, defeat the heroes, and enact your evil scheme. In Villainous, the story-based gameplay allows players to experience events from the classic Disney films, Aladdin, Sleeping Beauty, The Little Mermaid, Robin Hood, Alice in Wonderland, and Peter Pan in exciting new ways. Each Villain plays differently, offering rich strategy to explore, surprising combinations to discover, and plenty of replay value.

To play, move to a spot on your board and take actions based on your options at that location - actions will allow you to gain power, play cards, and defeat heroes. But, being a true Villain requires strategic interference with your opponents' goals. Use other players' Fate cards featuring heroes and other meddlesome objects, to prevent them from reaching their objectives. Be the first to achieve your Villain's devious objective and you win!

Q: Is this game sophisticated enough for adults who like strategy games?

submitted by Answer me this - 4 years ago
  • A: Definitely. Perfect for adult gamers, especially Disney fans.

submitted byTotoro - 4 years ago
  • A: It is very sophisticated. The gameplay is complex and you have to think up your strategy many moves ahead!

submitted byFaraan - 3 years ago
  • A: Oh absolutely. My girlfriend, her adult family members, and I and played it. It took a round or two to understand it. But it’s definitely a game of strategy and chance sophisticated enough to be played by adults. It’s not good for kids under 10 or 12 I’d say. And some characters are really difficult while some are a bit easier. But the game is different every time you play. No matter what strategy you come up with, it’s all a matter of chance. It’s great fun, and it’s still PG enough to be played with kids around.

submitted byMr Bretz - 3 years ago
  • A: Yes-it is a bit difficult your first play though. I recommend it for multiple players though!

Q: i have a family with me my husband and three girls. 2 6 and 12 who all love disney. could we play as a family and enjoy it?

submitted by disneyluver - 3 years ago
  • A: You, your husband, and your 12 year old could play. The game is a litlle bit too complicated for a 6 & 2 year old.

This game is beautifully crafted with excellent disney details, however the gameplay is pretty long. We played recently with 6 people and I think it's a game much better suited to about 3 if you don't want to invest tons of hours.

Hard to Learn, Enjoyable once you do

it's honestly quite a complicated game. almost as if they're are games within a game and each character has its own unique set of challenges and rules that the instructions don't explain clearly and you only figure out by playing. Not all characters have an equal opportunity to win either. While my characters objective and possible hinderences to it seemed quite possible I noted that two of my opponents characters had what seemed like long shot and nearly impossible challenges to overcome and would need sheer luck to ever stand a chance at winning. I didn't much like the idea of EVER having to be those characters. Game was very hard to grasp for all of us ages 18-64, varying levels of education but all with diplomas, and some to graduating college degrees. Once we grasped it- it was enjoyable. Its worth sticking to it and worth avoiding ever becoming one of the characters with locks. definitely too hard for non-genius people under age 15. Game is very possibly a lengthy time investment once people know how to play and slow down their opponents.

This game is very difficult to learn. It's confusing and complex. I had to watch 2 Youtube videos before we got it. If my kids want to play this with their friends, it would take too long to teach them how to play.

This game is absolutely one of the greatest! But, realize it does take time to learn how to play. While the game is complicated to start (I recommend watching a tutorial) after that its really easy to learn how to use a new character. Definitely recommend to more young teens and up, but is a great game!

Not a family fun game - 8 months ago, Verified purchaser
The game is very complicated and took us almost a half hour to read just the directions. This game is not only confusing, it is also stressful and uses the word “relm” about 1,000 times. We are definitely not adding this game to our family game nights.

Favorite of all board games for my family. The more you play it, the more interesting it gets. It takes some time until you get the hang of it to fully enjoy, but it is definitely worth it. Seemed pricey when I bought it, but I did not regret it.

Most of the villains have complicated goals, although one character's goal is very simple and easily completed. We had a group aged 13 - 56

Got me in love with board games again

My family, friends, and I got into Marvel Villainous really late. It wasn't until October of 2021 that someone in our circle bought the Infinite Power original base set. After reading the rules, we were pretty overwhelmed. Thank goodness for Youtube. Watched one how-to-play video and immediately jumped into our first game. Upon a few rounds, we all looked at each other with grins knowing this is a definitely going to be a new obsession. Four days later, we looked up to see if there was any expansion packs released yet because given the size of the Marvel Comics Universe, they have a vast number of villains to be creative with. Low and behold, we were in luck that they literally released this first expansion pack just back in July/August. We were at Target that same day. Loving this Target exclusive "frost" version of Loki (though the regular release green Loki piece is cool, obviously if I could I'd want both xD). Also digging the special blue sleeve cover as well. I am happy with the continued uniqueness of how the 3 new characters are. As with the original Infinite Power characters, these 3 new characters all play differently and cater to specific play styles. I had a silly unwarranted concern that things would begin to "overlap." Modok, Masque, and Loki each add something refreshing. We CANNOT wait til the 2nd expansion (hopefully summer of 2022??!). Maybe Target may get the exclusive version again.

Such a fun game!! I now have monthly villainous parties because my friends are obsessed too! So much creativity behind this game and the expansion packs are great too! Captain Hook is definitely the easiest character in general but if your hand is stacked to your advantage you’ll be him. It can take awhile to learn and knowing all the characters and their cards helps, but it’ll only take game 2 to have you hooked.

It feels so good to be BAD

Senet - 2 years ago, Verified purchaser
Only the worse will take the gold in this asymmetrical game. Become a famous (or underrated) villain from Disney's vast collection and use everything in your power to accomplish your goal. Villainous is an asymmetrical game where players use their realm to take specific actions to help them towards their goal. Whether it's gaining power (money) playing down allies or items or vanquishing heroes it will be a puzzle for everyone to solve. HOWEVER, other villains will be trying to slow you down by FATING you and unleashing your greatest adversaries or events that will set you back. Can you lay down a curse down in everyone location as Maleficent, Vanquish Peter Pan with Captain Hook, Play a successful game of croquet as the Queen of Hearts, Claim the trident and crown with Ursula, Collect power as Prince John, or acquire the magic lamp as Jafar. Only the worse takes it all! PS: This game supports many expansions mixing and matching more villains giving it great replayability.

Amazing Game

We did not expect it to be as fun as it is. The instructions do seem a bit much but I find it best to play a practice round with the instructions handy. Once this game gets going its very obvious what has to be done. I also love the fact that you have your own objectives and want to sabatage everyone else's along the way. Just a fair warning the game duration gets substantially longer the more players you have. So maybe play your test run with 2.

Amazing strategy game! Love playing this game and easy to play (once you understand the game)through FaceTime too! You play on your own board and interact with others through the game but if you can communicate then you can play with your long distance friends if they have this game or the expansion packs.
