About this item
This book reflects the enormous ongoing interest in work-life balance (WLB) and current pressing concerns about the impacts of austerity more broadly. It draws on contemporary research and practitioner experiences to explore how ongoing and new challenges for WLB and related social policy fare in turbulent economic times and the implications this holds for employees, employers and wider societies.
A guiding theme throughout the book is the focus on a triple agenda of supporting employee WLB, workplace effectiveness and social justice in an austerity context. The book first sets out the context in terms of working time trends, job quality and social policy across Europe under economic austerity. It then examines workplace, legal and social challenges for employers, workers and carers and considers potential consequences for the triple agenda. Finally case studies of effective organizational policies and practices and organizational innovation processes are discussed along with international examples of social and community innovations.
