Q: What large screen tv would be compatible with this receiver --could i use a 60 inch?

submitted by cobaltbuyer - 3 years ago
  • A: Thanks for the question! You select a TV based upon personal preference, room size, and cost factors. An AV Receiver choice is based upon room size, features, sound quality, cost, and listening habits. There are customers buying 65 or 75 in TVs and listening with a sound bar, just as those who prefer a $249.00 receiver or $2000.00 receiver with 5 or 7 large surround speakers and play at theater level volume. The Yamaha RX-V385 is a fine entry level receiver. Connected to appropriate surround speakers in a modest sized room it will provide the same sonic excellence as one costing much more with large loudspeakers in a large room. Yamaha has been my recommended receiver for many years. You are welcome to call us and learn about all your options and considerations in selecting a Yamaha home theater AV Receiver. Thanks again.

I have had pretty much every name out there for receivers and I have come back to Yamaha. Before this receiver I had a Denon at more that double the cost and when it failed I looked around and most companies offering receivers that I was looking at had spring clips for the speaker connections. No thanks. Plus this receiver looks beautiful, how much more can you ask for?

the receiver has a few flaws. i would have liked an additional optical port. another channel or a second set of outs for audio only would have been primo. the bluetooth is too friendly. any device that had been paired will turn the receiver on and then not let another link up. but very minor flaws. overall a very good value. the only reason i would not recommend to a friend is the need to do there own reaserch.

I replaced my 17 year old Sony surround sound system with this. I was most impressed with the video improvement. My TV already accepts a 4K signal so the improvement was dramatic. The audio benefits from improved, more efficient speakers. An excellent unit!

Most of the DSP modes are a waste of time. Don't even bother. Ambient room sound should be part of the recording, not artificially created and added to the sound of the recording. Yamaha DSP doesn't created the sound of real musicians in a real acoustic venue. Yamaha DSP creates the sound of a recording with real recorded ambiance played in an artificial acoustic venue.

My sixth Yamaha AVR

I bought this AVR in a store. I bought this AVR because of the Virtual Cinema Front feature. My new house doesn't allow me to use surround speakers behind the listeners. I couldn't try it before I bought it. I discovered that I don't like the sound of the equalization of the Virtual Cinema Front feature. The sound was too honky. So, I configured my surround channel amplifier for passive biamplification and connected the front surround speakers differentially to the surround amplifiers, the same as the Hafler Dynaquad passive surround sound circuit or Stereo Dimensional Array SDA speakers. The sound is much less honky. Now I need to decide if I will miss true surround sound with speakers behind the listeners.

Surround system used to make home a movie theater- it does the job but would like it to have more watts and more room to manipulate the speaker wires while installing. I would recommend if you're looking for a cheap price that will get the job done.

The 385 model has No filmware update, yet Yamaha promised to release one. I'm still waiting but won't hold my breath. The 383 model has version 1.08 yet the 385 is still version 1.02. Now my new 4k TV and my 385 can't be hooked via Arc. Any suggestions welcome.

It was easy to set up and the mic that senses the room is easy to use. I like the fact I can Relabel the hdmi ports. The Bluetooth was a must with me and it was easy to set up. Only wish it came with a complete owners manual. Great value for the price!

Tried using arc. Does not work. Great, go back to not using arc right? Wrong. Way wrong. No audio output now. Bluetooth connects, no audio. Picture goes through, no audio. Firmware version reads: version error. Factory reset does nothing. No firmware update available to upgrade / potentially fix unit. Complete failure. Unit has measures set up to support arc but completely fails to do so. Unit did not start failing until i attempted to use arc.

This new model is unbelievable in features and performance considering the price. I've been involved in Audio for 60 years and this unit is the best buy I've ever come across. If you want a simple, user-friendly receiver that offers everything you need and more, you can't beat this unit. It's very flexible for 2.1 and 3.1 systems all the way up to 5.1. I'm totally impressed and give it my highest rating! Thanks Yamaha for the greatest bargain in Audio/Video....My only complaint is you have to print the 100+ page manual.
