We have been using Ziploc Steamer Bags for many years, with great satisfaction. When we began using the bags, there were two sizes, with the larger bags being ideally suited for large baking potatoes, cob corn, long carrot strips and more. We have loved the simplicity of using these steamer bags, to create our own vegetable medleys - by far beating the cost of these prepackaged brand-name steam bag vegetables! Since the larger bags have been discontinued, we have found a way around this is to halve our cob corn, and to cut the length of other vegetables. When buying baking potatoes, we now buy a bit smaller, or opt for two bags. The size that is currently being sold works perfectly for vegetables that are smaller, or cut into chunks. Following the chart that is printed on each bag, ensures that the vegetables turn out perfectly every time. We usually add no water to the bag, but sometimes will add up to one tablespoon, just depending on the vegetable. Additionally, we sometimes add a bit of Mrs. Dash or a similar herb/spice to the bag, to infuse the vegetables with exciting flavor as they steam. In that instance, before serving we will spritz with a few light pumps of a buttery margarine spray - so delicious, and so much more economical than the premixed and seasoned brand name vegetables. Whether serving ourselves or guests, the flavor and ease cannot be beat! I also began experimenting a few years ago, with the washing and reuse of each bag, and found that the bags would hold up quite well for repeated use over an extended period of time - providing even more economy! My bottom line here is to suggest that anyone who desires ease and economy, while serving tasty side dishes with flavor and texture, should try these bags, if you do, you will be hooked on their simplicity of use and quality. In closing, I would only like to request that S. C. Johnson please reconsider producing the larger bags that I loved and used so much. I'm your customer for life!
