Q: The mist is not visible in my units. Why is this?
submitted by Theotherother - 5 years ago
A:Â I've owned this humidifier for almost two years and had the same concern at first. You can't see the mist, but it does create humidified air and I think works better than my other unit where the mist is more visible. If you fill the water container and run the unit and it empties out in 10-15 hours, then you know it is releasing plenty of humidified air.
submitted bymcfrmks - 5 years ago
A: We appreciate your inquiry. The type of humidifier you have is ‘Evaporative’, which means that the fan in the unit evaporates the water directly into the air. The way this unit works is: The wicking filter soaks the water up from the tray that it is sitting in. The fan then pulls the water off of the filter and evaporates it into the surrounding air. Since the air is being perfectly balanced and not oversaturated, you will not feel or see the moisture. Over time, you will notice the water level in your tank going down, which shows you that the unit is working. The only time the unit would run and not use up any water is once all of the air in the room reaches about 50%. At this point, the air cannot soak up any more water from the filter, so the fan will keep running but the water level will only go down minimally. We hope this is helpful. If you have any questions, please contact us by emailing SocialSupport@kaz.com. Thank you.

A: I was wondering too, it says cool, then it has over to the right, “Warm visible mist provides soothing comfort for dry air relief, which would imply a heating humidifier. Fix the description...please... I was looking for another cheaper evaporation unit over my main one. FYI to other readers... With evaporation units you do not see the mist, are cool; heating ones are warm/hot you see it the mist; ultrasonic humidifiers are cool, you see the mist and are the units that deposit a white mineral dust. Evaporation models are the least likely to airborne viable bacteria according to some studies I have seen. A few Honeywell models have a small UV light in the pathway of the water from the storage bottle to the filter that should help with some bacteria, well could not hurt.. more of a safe guard then guarantee in my opinion? These run around $60 if you look around. Honeywell HCM350 comes to mind.

Q: What happens if I leave it on and it runs out of water? Basically, what happens If I am not there to turn it off when the water runs out?
submitted by Babba - 5 years ago
A:Â It will keep running, but since it is evaporative (not warm mist), there will be no water vapor being blown out into the room. Since there is no heating element, there is no risk of anything "burning up." It will basically just turn into a fan.
submitted byCourtney - 5 years ago
A:Â A.) Thank you for your inquiry. This Honeywell humidifier is not equipped with an auto-shut off feature. With this type of unit an automatic shut off is unnecessary because the only mechanical component is a fan. When the unit is not in use, or is out of water, it is actually better for the filter to be dried out, which is exactly what the fan will do for you. However, this unit does have 0.8 gallon capacity and can runs up to 18 hours per filling on low setting. We hope this information is helpful. If you have any other questions regarding this Honeywell Humidifier, please do not hesitate to contact our consumer relations team. Our team can be reached by emailing SocialSupport@Kaz.com. Not Robust Enough for Critical Humidity Control

I purchased this humidifier as we were entering a very cold snap and wanted to keep my small studio room humidified to prevent any damage to my acoustic guitars. I have sound hole humidifiers when they are in cases, but I prefer to keep a few out for quick access. This room is under 240 square feet with carpeting and some acoustic sound absorption. Ideally, relative humidity should be between 45-50%. The room temperature ranges from 68-73 degrees. As humidity levels began to drop below 30%, I ran the humidifier on high setting for several hours. It was definitely wicking water as I had to refill the reservoir about two times per day. After three days (with overnight temps in 20’s) the highest humidity level reached was 34% (photo shows digital thermometer/hygrometer). It just couldn’t handle the dry air from the heating system (which I adjusted several times to try and compensate). Noise level is actually not very bad, relative to other comments noted here. It adds about 12db at six feet away (see noise meter pics). The low setting is hardly detectable. Frankly, the white noise generated is very even and not an issue. (see pics for baseline levels, High levels, and noise curve - 30 second samples). It’s built well and I had no issues with filling the reservoir or keeping the wick moist, flipping it a few times also. I used filtered and distilled water to keep deposits to a minimum. If you just need to keep levels above 20%, this might work for you. If humidity levels are critical, as in my situation, then I can’t recommend this.

I love this humidifier because of the filter. It doesn’t leave a bunch of white dust all over the room like filterless ultrasonic humidifiers. Additionally, it’s very quiet when on the low setting and it’s easy to clean! We have one in every bedroom!

Likes: effective, no hassle watering, lasts for quite awhile. Dislikes: paper filters are harder to come by, unit is awkwardly built, noisy high speed. Verdict: Honeywell makes good humidifiers, however, this one while effective, isn’t the best built and could use a rethink in how the unit comes apart.

humidifier requires the filter to be totally saturated with water, or it won't work properly. occasionally will even smell like it's burning if not saturated enough. however, once the filter becomes saturated it won't stand up properly inside the unit and flops down- again, then the humidifier won't work properly either. double-edged sword. gave it approx 2 months to see if was quality item- clearly, it is not.

No white dust!
4 out of 5 stars
Paige - 1 year ago, Verified purchaser
We have hard water so regular humidifiers spit white dust so much even if I used the water purifier. This humidifier, thanks to the filter, does not produce any white dust. You do not see any water coming out but water in the tank goes down. One problem I have been having from the start is that the tank leaks from the side even if the the lid is correctly and tightly screwed on. There is no stopper (rubber ring), and I wonder if there should have been a stopper... It is really annoying as the water leaks from the side of the lid badly when I tilt it to place the tank in the unit. Once the tank is placed in the unit, it seems the leakage stops.

Various conditions can affect the performance of your Cool Mist Humidifier. Initially when using a unit, it can take a seemingly long time for the humidity level in the room to rise. The reason for this is that your unit is constantly trying to push moisture into an extremely dry environment. Everything in that environment (walls, floors, furniture, carpet, etc...) is absorbing this moisture. Only when all the objects in the environment are saturated, will the water from the humidifier stay in the air. Due to this, we recommend leaving your humidifier on the highest setting. If you have dry heat, such as forced hot air, it is best to let the unit run constantly. You will know the humidifier is working because the water level in the tank will go down with use. You may want to consider using a hygrometer so that you can monitor the humidity level in your room. If you require additional assistance, please email us at SocialSupport@helenoftroy.com.
