Q: if it is really free I have to pay an extra tax and I can also configure my number for the banks I can change with my same number

submitted by it really is being free - 11 months ago
  • A: Some states have no tax...if you happen to have an address in Texas or California you are good to go!

submitted bySweet deal - 11 months ago
  • A: Not exactly. Recently the terms were changed to auto top-up when you are about to go over the 100/100/100 per month limit. You have to very mindful not to go over and hit with an auto top-up charge.

    submitted bySam K - 8 months ago
  • A: Turn off the data, don't use more than 100 minutes or texts, and use a virtual credit card or a visa gift card witn a $1 balance as a payment intrument.

submitted bySteve - 7 months ago
  • A: Hi it really is being free, thanks for reaching out about FreedomPop SIM Starter Kit ACP: Affordable Mobile Plans with Nationwide Coverage. Looking at the info, what is free is 100min, 100texts, and 100mb data, anything over that would require a differnt plan. If you have any additional questions, we welcome you to contact MyTGTtech at 833-848-8324 every day, between 7am-11pm CST.

  • A: Yes, FreedomPop offers a FREE plan for all users and you'll have no issues receiving bank codes or 2FA as our service is cellular. Taxes and fees may apply depending on your location.

submitted byFreedomPop - 10 months ago
  • A: They wil also cancel your line if you don't switch to a paid plan eventually. It's obviously a bait-and-switch to lock people in.

submitted bythamster - 9 days ago
  • A: No, it is not free. If you go over 100/100/100 you will automatically be charged.

submitted byJ Bloe - 8 months ago
  • A: No longer free unless you never go over the 100/100/100 mo. Now they hit you with auto-topup ($8 for 1gb) and offer you to pay $5/mo. "safety" to make it the way it was.

submitted byJ Bloe - 8 months ago
  • A: lol 100% free... for the one month and 100MB of service, even though you paid $5 for it. After that, if you use up any of the balance, they automatically charge you $8 and switch you to a paid plan.

submitted bythamster - 7 months ago

AT&T service provider. It is not a good idea with Verizon style phones. The Calypso 3 shows potential in working as an AT&T mobile phone with FreedomPop.

The SIM did not work, and FreedomPop would not send a replacement SIM. Target is not helping much either, and I couldn't return it after TWO WEEKS! Watch out for the ridiculous return window.

They recently added a top up feature, the moment you add your card to their website, you will get random charges!! Be careful when purchasing from them. They're also closing accounts randomly.

If you don’t have the time and patience to deal with actual tricks and gimmicks, stay away. FreedomPop has implemented two tricks in the span of two months, and just over a month of my personal usage: 1) Oct. 2, 2023 Auto-top-ups: For these specific SIMs, an auto-top-up feature would be enabled when the balance runs low on minutes, text messages, or data. The customer does not know what “low” entails. This notice is communicated by FreedomPop, but users still experience charges with little to no usage. 2) Oct. 29, 2023 One free line per account: After allowing users to have multiple free lines per account for months (years?), this is changed to one free line per account and FreedomPop retroactively renders many/most/all of these accounts and their respective SIMs deactivated. The notice of the change is NOT communicated, a warning to potential violators to correct this is NOT communicated, a notice that service and accounts were deactivated after the fact is NOT communicated. 3) mmm. dd, 20yy: What will the next trick be? How long will Target sell this item or take action? Very scummy. “No tricks or gimmicks” my rear-end! (Target, please do not share my personal info with this scam company if requested, as laid out in the review guidelines. Consumers need to know.)

Company deleted account making sim unusable

Willy - 7 months ago, Verified purchaser
They started deleting accounts now making the sim unusable because they don’t like how people have multiple sims linked to one account. FreedomPop seems to be a shady company looking at its past history.

They're deleting accounts. Had two of these attached to the same account and now I can't log in. Seems they updated terms to state only 1 free line per account just recently and didn't grandfather anyone in that made accounts before they implemented this new change. Target should totally ditch this company.

This was a really nice plan to use in a spare, old phone, and I had no problem adding a block of minutes or texts if and when I needed it. Last week, I received an email that FreedomPop was changing things immediately to either auto top-up (the $8 tier, not the cheaper ones) or you can pay $5/month for the “Safety Mode” plan (the same 100/100/100 plan without auto top-ups). Considering that 100MB of data is nearly nothing and FreedomPop’s data meters don’t seem to be accurate, this has basically become a $5 or $8/month plan.

the "free" plan now will auto-top-up when your balance is low on minutes, texts, or data, and Freedompop does not say exactly what a "low" is, so be prepared for top-up charges.

Don't buy this! it's advertised to come with 100 minutes 100 texts and 100 mb data. Yeah not a lot but good for an emergency back up phone. You put this sim in an old flip phone and throw it in the glove box. You shouldn't have a problem right? But wait Freedompop mysteriously drain your data down to nothing on a phone that's not even turned on. They have started topping up your "Free Plan" when any of your buckets hit zero. You'll get charged a fee to for you "Free Service". Not so free after all huh? Stay away unless you feel like being ripped off!

You will be auto charged when you use more than the "free minutes, texts and data"

Customer - 8 months ago, Verified purchaser
The "free service" has auto top ups so it is not "free" as all, once you use more than the 100 minuts, 100 texts or the 100MB data in the billing cycle you will be charged. And this is not optional but mandatory. To avoid the auto top ups you have to pay for $5 per month to get the safe mode plan, which is not "free" at all.
