I have read some reviews that said that this detector did not work. So we tested it for gas by placing it next to our gas cooktop, turning the burner on and blowing out the flame. In about a minute the detector went off. We then tested it for carbon monoxide by putting it inside our barbecue gril...see moreof the reviewer's review

This product works fine, the instructions are clear on how it should function and what the different beeps mean. My only compliant is that it is very difficult to get the backup battery into the unit. The 9V terminal attachments are in a small space in the unit.see moreof the reviewer's review

I own three of these for our home. Like other reviewers have stated, the battery compartment is not always good. I have one that I have absolutely no problems with, and then the other two, I have to struggle to get the battery in the compartment and close the door.
