@littletime_lotsofbooks “The same universe that dispassionately takes things away can bring you things you weren’t imaginative enough to dream up.” Funny Story by Emily Henry 💙 Book Review 📚 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 (and more if I could) Daphne is just getting fully settled into a new place with a new job she loves in Wanning Bay, Michigan when her fiancé Peter suddenly had a change of heart the night of his bachelor party and her whole world is turned upside down. She thought they were end game and could see forever with him in their new lakeside home when he leaves her for his childhood best friend Petra. When Peter leaves she finds herself needing a place to live, so enter in Miles Nowak, Petra’s ex who finds himself in the same boat looking for a temporary roommate. Enter in the fake dating troupe (which I’ve realized in so here for in books!) Miles is the opposite of Peter and allows Daphne to feel a bit less buttoned up and more her authentic self than could be with Peter and how she had to constantly be perfect for his wealthy family and life he had perfectly curated. As we get to know Daphne and Peter we find they both have built of walls from their past of distrust and hurt from not just their recent breakups but their childhoods and parents. Between the two of them they try to help heal the ultimate broken hearts 💔. I absolutely loved both Miles and Daphne and felt myself relating to Daphne more than any other character in a contemporary romance book. I loved the dynamic between her and her mom and her newfound friends at the library that carried her through so much. I also was not expecting all the depth this would cover on having parents who let you down or who struggle narcissism and not being present. That is something I can relate to in my own life so I found myself crying at 1am at the beautiful depth emilyhenrywrites put into that backstory with Miles and with Daphne and her dad. I love that even in a romance you can have depth and talks about mental health! I adored the romance and the slow build and the cozy vibes of her job and town they lived in! It made me want to jump right and head to Michigan! Can’t recommend it enough and easily my new #1 of her books!

Book Synopsis

A shimmering, joyful new novel about a pair of opposites with the wrong thing in common, from #1 New York Times bestselling author Emily Henry.

Daphne always loved the way her fiancé Peter told their story. How they met (on a blustery day), fell in love (over an errant hat), and moved back to his lakeside hometown to begin their life together. He really was good at telling it...right up until the moment he realized he was actually in love with his childhood best friend Petra.

Which is how Daphne begins her new story: Stranded in beautiful Waning Bay, Michigan, without friends or family but with a dream job as a children's librarian (that barely pays the bills), and proposing to be roommates with the only person who could possibly understand her predicament: Petra's ex, Miles Nowak.

Scruffy and chaotic--with a penchant for taking solace in the sounds of heart break love ballads --Miles is exactly the opposite of practical, buttoned up Daphne, whose coworkers know so little about her they have a running bet that she's either FBI or in witness protection. The roommates mainly avoid one another, until one day, while drowning their sorrows, they form a tenuous friendship and a plan. If said plan also involves posting deliberately misleading photos of their summer adventures together, well, who could blame them?

But it's all just for show, of course, because there's no way Daphne would actually start her new chapter by falling in love with her ex-fiancé's new fiancée's ex...right?
