Q: How does the Keep out Zones work?

submitted by Suem - 3 months ago
  • A: Keep-Out Zones allow you to designate areas in your home where you don’t want your robot to go. Keep-Out Zones can be added to the iRobot® HOME App by adding rectangular zones to your Imprint™ Smart Map. This feature is ideal for keeping your robot away from pet bowls, clutter, or other areas where your robot has difficulty navigating.

Q: I have wool looped carpet. Does the roller brush pull looped threads?

This model is the worst. I was very excited to change to a self cleaning model. It cannot hold a charge. I’ve cleaned with leads and it will charge temporarily but then stop. We’ve had so many issues.

The first year I used it once a day then changed the schedule for twice daily. That's when the error started. We change the filters, the bags also the motor. Still showing error. Thanks for the year and 1/2 but think this one is done. Not sure what else to do. I expected this vacuum to last longer being I paid so much for it.

This room a was great until just after the 1 year mark. It is constantly unable to get back on the charging ports even though it is cleaned frequently and I have to keep placing it on the dock myself. On top of that issue I have replaced the filter as needed and keep getting an insufficient air flow error that makes the robot stop working completely… I have tried replacing the filter, cleaning the bin, replacing the brushes and even resetting to factory reset, nothing has worked. I love that this model empties itself out into the bin but my older 900 series Roomba actually works better 🥴

Disappointed Roomba User - 9 months ago, Verified purchaser
After hearing about my boyfriends roomba, i finalllu decided to break the piggy bank and buy a roomba. Day 1 i already had issues. Error codes popped up. Also stated the bag was full. I know what you’re thinking, “dang was your house that dirty?” No, not at all. It gave me an error code so i ordered three boxes. When they came in i put in a new bag. Still had the same code. I flipped it over and a wrapper was stuck. SMH. It didn’t need a new bag. Other than that my roomba is always low battery and will die after cleaning. It’s so annoying

I have only used this a handful of times in the 2 years I have owned it. At first it was amazing. Then it quit self evacuating. The app doesn't even have the option to self evacuate like it says it does. I have trouble shooted. Even filed a replacement claim on the canister and that one still would not work. Maybe it's the roomba itself. Otherwise works great but with the size of my house I have to be on top of manually emptying it over and over for a clean floor.

Roomba I6 - disappointing

The bin is much smaller than the 600 series. Due to the poor job of handling pet fur, I have programmed it to vacuum each room separately, and it still leaves many clumps of fur on the floor and area rug. The rollers would be an excellent idea for the hair, but due to the lack of bin size, the vacuum cannot hold it all, and its backups up quickly. My room is average (14x20), and I still need to follow up with a stick vacuum. I am disappointed as I should have bought another 600 series with the brushes. I have owned IRobots for the last 11 years, and this one disappoints. Not good for pet hair.

This is my third Roomba. The first 2 models lasted for a couple of years and they made housework so much easier but I liked the bin on this that empties itself. Unfortunately after 4 months it will not hold a charge and does not work anymore. I've tried cleaning it, resetting it etc but Nope.

Battery / Charging issues

Bought the machine last October, it works fine until recent. It did the schedule jobs every morning. Recently, the robot always has low battery and does not work. I fully charged the night before so it can clean in the morning but low battery even it's at the station all night long. I clean the contacts on the robot and the clean base, I changed the filter, brush and clean the rollers and dirt bin. Same issue occurred. Battery should not be low when it's at the station. I am contacting technical support for help. Hopefully they can solve the problem. Overall, it did the job if the battery is in good condition.

This model I believe the worst model I have purchased from iRobot. I have replaced many parts on this unit, during the warrantee pierid and after the warrantee. (Had to pay for parts out of Pocket) It appears the durability of this Roomba is very bad. I had the wheel mooters break. (both) The brush Motor break, The dust bin break. The side brush motor break and now the bumper with the RCON sensor is broken (So it has trouble docking) and I had to send it in to repair this time as it's not a Customer Replaceable part. (Which cost $150) Overall I would not recommend this to anyone as it's the worst Roomba I have ever owned, and I am thinking about purchasing a new Robot Vacuum (Not from iRobot) as now I am questioning if their other newer models are all made the same way that they break often and cost more.

Have two different schedules to clean 1/2 of house M, W, F then The other 1/2 of the house T, T, S. Worked great for about two months then the Error 30 started. Have done everything suggested, several times, to clear the error and the next morning it stalled and Error 30!! Really, only after only 2 months? It's still under warranty. Also, doesn't always pick up per hair, just leaves roll of hair I have to get the Dyson stick vac to pick up.

The convenience is not worth the trouble

Wanted to like it - 3 years ago
originally posted on http://store.irobot.com
I've had this Roomba for a few months now, and I'm pretty disappointed. I REALLY wanted to like it, but it's just way more trouble than it is worth. I have it set to clean my mix carpet and hard floor house every other day. This requires my picking up everything that it can get stuck on and putting something under the couch to keep it from getting stuck in the morning before I leave for work. I also have to take off the rollers and clean out the hair, as well as clean the filter and finish emptying the bin. There is a lot of preparation to give it the best chance at being successful. Unfortunately, even with all the preparation, the robot only completes a clean about a third of the time. It almost always needs help of some kind while I'm at work, which means the battery dies and the job is incomplete. Successful runs take nearly 8 hours for my 2200 sq ft house. Successful runs still require me to go behind it and pick up tufts of dog hair that it basically just rolls up like hay and leaves on the carpet. There is also a ton of dirt left behind that my regular vacuum picks up. Essentially this machine leaves stripes on my carpet so it *looks* like it has been vacuumed... when it doesn't get stuck... or the battery dies... or the brushes don't need to be cleaned... or the bin is full... The convenience is not worth the trouble. I would return it if I could.

No clean zones on both I6 robots

I bought the I6 & after mapping was complete on the map page it shows room dividers, room labels & keep out zones (not zones) where you are supposed to be able to chose keep out or clean zones. After hrs on the phone with tech I was told i needed to sign up to Beta to have that function. So i did. After a few days of it still not showing i bought another I6 and am still having the same results. (no clean zones) only keep out zones on both I6's

love it, had the old one many years ago hated that one, The i Robot with the recharging and emptying capabilities is amazing, goes off everyday at 5am then again at 2pm. question...what's the difference between the I 6+ and the I 8+ ? are the machines different quality (suction etc.) or are they just different packages that different retailers sell? I want a second one for upstairs.

We are: 2 Adults, 3 Dogs, 2 Cats... 1600 sq', single story in rural area, mostly tile and 1 carpeted room. It runs every single day with extra edge clean, and the bin is always stuffed full of pet hair. Backstory: This is our 4th Roomba, and we really can't live without one. 1st wasn't up to our needs. 2nd 900 series worked great for years until it found the cat poop before we did. Replaced it with the same version, but it didn't work as well as the previous one. Replaced it because we have to empty our regular bin at least 1/day. And that gets old. We love the idea of self-cleaning all that pet hair out of the bin. Received the i6 yesterday. Out of the box, a little disappointed that there were no spare filters in the box as we received on previous units. Set up was easy, and we did a small test run last night. Seemed quieter, though it really bounced around on our raised deco tiles. This morning it ran while I was at work, and I was surprised to see that it ran for less than an hour. Seems to have skipped a few areas in the house and about 1/4 of our living room. Tried to see in the bin to understand how much it picked up, but that didn't seem possible. Poked around and noticed a few small bits on the floor that it hadn't picked up... Will try to determine why it missed some areas and update soon and revise starts as appropriate!
