Kent Bicycles presents the NORTHSTAR dual-suspension mountain bike, an affordable way to experience the great outdoors. Sturdy steel URT dual suspension frame with a front suspension fork is the heart of the package. Motivation comes in the form of a 21-speed drivetrain featuring a Shimano rear derailleur. Stopping control is accomplished with front disk brake and rear linear pull handbrakes. Fat knobby tires provide grippy traction and high-profile wheels with machined braking surfaces keep the ride straight and true. When the journey gets long, you'll be happy for the Vitesse padded saddle and easily adjusted seat height with no tools required via the quick release seatpost clamp. Around the neighborhood or on the trail, the NORTHSTAR DS has got a handle on it providing you with a good workout and a smile.

Beware. The brakes are scary (to me anyway). Given that brakes are probably the most important safety feature, I did not want to risk this so returned it. It's too bad - really wanted it to work since paint colors are great, along with the price point. However, the bike arrived with front brake not fully assembled (it is supposed to be but the cable attaching to the hand lever was disconnected) and back brake is not fully assembled either (by design, purchaser has to do this). Brake cable caps come off too easily and cable starts to unwind. Plus, back brake caliper is cheaply made – just too much plastic overall for important brake components to make me want to ride the bike. For a few bucks more, Kent could upgrade the brakes to Shimano and have a really, really attractive entry level full suspension MTB.

broke quicker than it took to put it together

bought for my husbands bday, he was optimistic not because the part quality but because the reviews were great. we put it together and road it twice and both times something broke on it, the last time it was the gears so we returned it. it's plastic crap compared to the bikes we are use to riding. really suprised about the good reviews, I don't know how they could be real. be warned it's just a cheap bike that accurately is reflected by the price.
