A: It will depend on the hairs natural starting point. Madison Reed Radiant Cream Color is formulated with a 20 volume activator, and like most permanent hair color lines, can not lift previously colored hair. Our formula is able to lighten up to two shades on natural, uncolored hair. When going lighter on uncolored hair, the natural hair color pigment is removed. This process exposes the warmer tones that naturally live in our hair. While the Umbria Light Brown contains cool tones, those cool tones are deposited into the hair to help neutralize the warm tones, delivering a more natural result. If the hair is too dark the cool tones in this color may not be dark enough to neutralize the brassy warm tones that become exposed.

Love the color! Very dark brown/ black that does a great job covering my very stubborn grays. With other products I had to do roots every three weeks or color every six weeks. My hair just felt so processed and I hated that I couldn't not find my color when I needed it in the store.

I also get my hair dyed at the salon. But my stylist is on baby leave so I decided to try an at home kit. This was easy to use. The color was perfect. And my hair - which is thin and frizzy - styled better after using it.

The salon was getting too expensive now that I'm mostly gray and my hair grows fast. This is salon quality! Very gentle on my hair. I've tried other products that fades too quick and dries out my hair. This lasts, doesn't fade, and my hair is very soft! So happy to have found this!

I wasnt able to schedule with my usual stylist in time for an event, and have used this brand before many times for root touch ups. The all over dye however I found was a lot darker than the color was depicted on the box. I dont hate the dark color on me, but I had been maintaining an auburn color for a while and was very disappointed that I would have to start over.

I received this hair color as a promotional item. I have colored my hair for 35+ years and have never had such a miserable experience. The product constantly clogged the dispenser nozzle making it nearly impossible to apply & it came out in "clumps".

This is my favorite home dye so far. It doesn't contain any harsh chemicals. The kit includes everything you may need including gloves, cap , shampoo and conditioner. The dye doesn't cause any burning or tingling when applied to the scalp. Color last several weeks. The smell is not overpowering either.
I will continue to use this product.

The smell is exactly like cement. Family member works for a block company like you uses for fences, the smell is exactly like the smell of the block building plant, totally disgusting. Endured using once but never again!

Initially, it was great. I bought it because it was supposed to be healthier than the traditional box dye. I have 50% gray, and the coverage seemed great. I colored over about 3-4 inches of natural growth and some overlap with previous dye. Unfortunately, a couple weeks later, the color faded and my hair started breaking off in the natural growth section of my hair. Another couple weeks passed, and now it’s falling out every time I run my fingers through it. I’ve lost about 1/4 to 1/3 of my hair’s volume, I have short flyaways all over my head. My hair is literally falling everywhere, day and night, and shows no signs of stopping. I searched and found out from Reddit that there’s apparently a class action lawsuit over the terrible hair breakage. I’m trying to be a good sport about it, because it’s just hair in a sense, but I had shiny, think hair that was almost to my waist, and it’s so upsetting to see how bad the damage is. Nobody had any ideas on fixing it. I’m drenching it in coconut oil and using gentle shampoo, no heat. No idea if that will help. I don’t recommend anyone risk their hair with this product. May as well use the tried and true box dye or just let it go gray. At least you’ll have hair.

Gave this brand a try since it was 50% off. Kept on my hair for an hour--looked nice. Usually buy similar color of Garnier brand. Garnier covered grey better than this brand. I will not buy more expensive brand again. Color seems to be washing out---grey roots slightly showing through within a week.
