@megs.notes Book Review 🍁 My Dark Vanessa by Kate Elizabeth Russell ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This is a hard review to write. The subject matter of this book, a 42 year old teacher grooming a 15 old student and filling her life with trauma, is not something you love. But I loved this book. Kate does a beautiful job of writing this story genuinely from these 2 peoples perspectives. I feel like it attempts to blur the morale lines and show you the full scope of their relationship and how these things start and grow. I felt so deeply connected to Vanessa and as she carried this trauma throughout her life, I wanted to see her be okay. I wanted her to know why the experiences she had were not healthy, and she wasn’t loved like she thought she was. I really loved this book and it’s one of my new all time favs. Kate’s writing is straightforward and brilliant. The plot is murky and makes you think. It’s truly devastating and real. The fact this man took up so much of Vanessas headspace for so many years is tragic. Jess Novel that sticks with you - Really gripping book. Hit close to home. I could not put it down and read it in less than 24 hours. I am glad I bought it because I want to read it again!
