@charcutereading 2023 was a slow reading year, but a big year in a lot of other ways. I don’t know what’s in store for 2024, but I’m always grateful for anytime spent reading. In no particular order, here are my 5⭐️ reads from 2023— The Last Love Note by emmagreyauthor - I thought this was going to be a rom com when I picked it up on a whim at target so I was wholly unprepared for the spiral of emotions this book put me through. I loved every minute of it though and I thought the sad part of the story was so well balanced with the joyful part. Hidden Potential by adamgrant - [Thanks to prhaudio for the gifted copy of this one.] I read more non fiction in 2023 than I ever have at any other point in my life thanks to the sharonsaysso book club, and I loved Hidden Potential so much that I immediately had my husband read it. Every few pages I was stopping to read him something I thought would resonate with him as someone who both coaches our kids in various activities and is at a turning point in his own career. I purchased at least 3 copies to give as gifts this holiday season as well. Tom Lake by Ann Patchett- came for Meryl Streep on the audio version of this book and stayed for the absolutely stunning picture Ann Patchett painted. I never wanted this one to end. Dual timelines is one of my favorite plot devices and I loved each time period equally. This book had me googling Michigan vacation rentals and where I could see Our Town. The Unmaking of June Farrow by adrienneyoungbooks - Magical realism, mystery, generational family drama, a little romance, this one truly has it all and it’s all extremely well done. I could not stop turning pages and when I ran out of pages to turn I was devastated. Worst book hangover of the year. None of This is True by lisajewelluk - I really did not think I would love this one as much as I did. I hate an unreliable narrator, but somehow this sucked me in anyway. It was completely unhinged and kept me on the edge of my seat. A thrilling ride in every way and a great example of why Lisa Jewell is an auto buy author for me—even when I think I’m out, she reels me in.

@readwithstef Last week I was in a major book slump when I it came to reading physical books. The cure for that? Lisa Jewell! 🙌🏼 The hype on this new book has been SO big, and honestly it’s worth it! I binged this one and truly couldn’t put it down. I loved how it was set up with dual povs, a podcast, and a documentary. It was creepy and mysterious and wild, and just so dang good. 💛 None of This is True by Lisa Jewell ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Genre: Thriller/Mystery Did I laugh? Only in an “oh my gosh this is so crazy it’s laughable” way. 😆 Did I cry? I didn’t, but some people might be saddened by parts of this story. 😕 Did I love it? I did! It’s one of my favorites for the year now! ❤️ I can’t wait to discuss this one with beachreadabook and the other readers in the group chat she’s hosting! This is a perfect buddy read/book club pick! 👏🏼 #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bibliophile #bookworm #reader #readerlife #newbook #noneofthisistrue #lisajewell #atriabooks #botm #bookofthemonth #booksubscriptionbox #thriller #mystery #thrillerreads #bookish #bookblogger #bookreview #bookreviewer #fivestars #fivestarread #tnbookstagrammers #tnblogger #franklinblogger #readthisbook #bookpics #target

Book Synopsis

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author known for her "superb pacing, twisted characters, and captivating prose" (BuzzFeed), Lisa Jewell returns with a scintillating new psychological thriller about a woman who finds herself the subject of her own popular true crime podcast.

Celebrating her forty-fifth birthday at her local pub, popular podcaster Alix Summer crosses paths with an unassuming woman called Josie Fair. Josie, it turns out, is also celebrating her forty-fifth birthday. They are, in fact, birthday twins.

A few days later, Alix and Josie bump into each other again, this time outside Alix's children's school. Josie has been listening to Alix's podcasts and thinks she might be an interesting subject for her series. She is, she tells Alix, on the cusp of great changes in her life.

Josie's life appears to be strange and complicated, and although Alix finds her unsettling, she can't quite resist the temptation to keep making the podcast. Slowly she starts to realize that Josie has been hiding some very dark secrets, and before she knows it, Josie has inveigled her way into Alix's life--and into her home.

But, as quickly as she arrived, Josie disappears. Only then does Alix discover that Josie has left a terrible and terrifying legacy in her wake, and that Alix has become the subject of her own true crime podcast, with her life and her family's lives under mortal threat.

Who is Josie Fair? And what has she done?

Review Quotes

"Gloriously dark, so clever and completely addictive - this is Lisa Jewell at the very top of her game. This book kept me up reading late into the night and haunted my dreams!" --LUCY FOLEY, New York Times bestselling author of The Paris Apartment

"Lisa Jewell is on top-form with this pitch-black fever dream of a book - darker, twistier and more compelling than ever." --RUTH WARE, New York Times bestselling author of The It Girl

"Gloriously dark and twistier than a twisty thing." --JOJO MOYES, New York Times bestselling author of Someone Else's Shoes

"I adore Lisa Jewell, and this is her best yet. I adored the unreliable characters, their dark secrets, the fateful collision of their two different worlds in the same corner of London. I simply could not leave it alone, and had to keep reading until I'd reached the heart-stopping conclusion. Utterly irresistible from the very first page." --KATHERINE FAULKNER, author of Greenwich Park

"A moody, slippery novel where nobody is as they seem. As breathtaking story is revealed within story, readers peel back the layers to find revenge, a meditation on the damage done by the past, and characters who could walk into the room and sit on your sofa. Here Jewell cements her position as queen of character-led fiction." --GILLIAN MCALLISTER, New York Times bestselling author of Wrong Place, Wrong Time
