Q: Are these GMO? It doesn't say on the picture that I can find.

submitted by Jen - 1 year ago
  • A: Hi Jen! Today, if an American food or beverage product lists corn, soy, canola, cottonseed or beet sugar as an ingredient and the product is not organic, it likely contains genetically modified/bioengineered ingredients. Our shells are not organic.

What Happened?

I have always been a die hard Old El Paso Taco shell consumer. I bought a pack of these and when my son and I opened them tonight, we both started laughing. They are SO SMALL. I wonder when this changed? I saw a few other reviews about this. I can always get a larger size but when you are pinching pennies, every cent counts. I am so surprised by this. I would love to continue eating these but I need a little more bang for my buck. Sucks, I’m really sad to go.

The disappearing taco shell

It's pretty sad when generic taco shells are better then name brand! Due to the financial state of our bank account lately, our grocery budget has greatly decreased. I have been buying store brand taco shells for the last year or so. I have been greatly surprised by how good their quality actually was. I had a little extra money this month and decided to buy Old El Paso taco shells instead of generic. We had them last night for dinner, and to say I was disappointed was an understatement! The shells were so tiny that it was hard to fill with more than a tiny layer of beef and a little cheese. There was not room for any of them other toppings. That's all the shells would hold. It really irks me, when a large, wealthy company has to squeeze more money out of the public and then deliver with such a poor quality product. Im not sure what you were thinking trying to sneak that in there without the " stupid" public noticing. It didn't work! You can bet I will not waste my money on Any Old El Paso product again !

Shell is to small to put anything in. Ended up crushing them up and putting meat, veggies and cheese on top. I RATE THIS PRODUCT A "0". Will not buy again.

Taco shells have shrunk

I haven’t bought these in a while so I’m not sure when this happened but these shells have shrunk so much I had to check the box and make sure I didn’t buy mini size. The flavor is good but these cannot be called regular size. These are mini kid size shells. The whole thing can be eaten in about three bites. We shouldn’t have to buy extra large shells to have a regular adult size taco.

Stale

Just had tacos with Old El Paso Crunchy taco shells we bought this week. Date on package says good through June 2023. They were stale and awful. The package was not compromised and the shrink wrap was in place. And YES, we did heat them up as directed, and still couldn't even eat them. Ended up emptying out the insides and eating with chips instead. I've noticed this the past few times we have bought them, but this time was the worst. Unfortunately, it is the only brand our local stores sell. Will just go to eating nachos in the future and will not buy again.

These are the smallest taco shells I've ever seen, outside of mini tacos. No more Old El Paso for us! Make Tacos Tacos again! Ridiculously small.

I HAVE BEEN BUYING THESE TACO SHELLS FOR YEARS. LATELY THEY ARE MUCH TOO THIN AND BREAK AS SOON AS YOU TRY TO FILL THEM. MAYBE THEY ARE SAVING CASH BY ADJUSTING THE AMOUNT OF BATTER IN EACH BATCH. VERY DISAPPOINTING

Cute Baby Shells

What did you do to these shells. Was your profit margin on these so bad you had to reduce their size to that of a 7/11 Mini Taco shell. Normally I always have soft shell tacos but had a craving for hard shell tonight. Went with the old standbys my mother always used but regretting that now. I was lucky to even get half the fixins in I normally would get. Seriously if the margins were that bad why didn’t you just knock the package count down to 10 and leave them the same size. On top of that who was the genius in the packaging department that wrote “Enlarged to show detail” on the front of the box. You should have just put “Actual Size” I am going to assume that the people in your marketing and product development departments don’t actually eat tacos because if they did they would have never let you reduce the size of these shells to that suitable for a 1 year old.

We were shocked by how small these shells are. We could hardly fit any toppings in our tacos. These should be labeled mini taco shells. We will try another brand next time.

Been buying these shells for years. Just bought them recently and am severely disappointed in the size of them. They have apparently shrunken the size of the shells to make more profit. Will not be buying any more Old El Paso products!

I like Old El Paso and Casa Mamita for tacos at home. Both are approved and taste good. I prefer the shells than the soft one,but also already tried the soft and are good too!

These are a staple in my home! They are so tasty, have the perfect crunch, and are super affordable. I enjoy using them for tacos and when I run out of chips, I break them into triangles for nachos! Such a versatile product. Perfect for large families :)

So sorry to hear that! We appreciate you letting us know. We recommend heating the taco shells as per the package directions, as not doing so can result in them having a stale taste/texture. Thank you for your feedback.

Bought these Taco shells for the first time. If you buy them recently please double check before eating them. They smell and taste like soap. I thought maybe I had cooked the taco and accidentally spill soap on the meat but my husband check the packaging and they all taste and smell like soap. Don’t buy. I hope we do not get sick from this.
