Q: What is the minimum wi-fi download speed for streaming media from the Roku apps?

submitted by AbolishSmoothJazzMovement - 5 months ago
  • A: Hello, AbolishSmoothJazzMovement! 5 megabits per second would be the average minimum speed required for HD content on most Channels. Remember, the Channel content, desired resolution (1080P vs. 4K), the number of devices simultaneously connected to your network, and the time of day will ultimately affect how good your streaming experience will be.

  • A: Hi, Scoobysnax! The Roku Streambar doesn't come with the private listening but the Roku Streambar Pro does have the private listening remote. If you wanted the Streambar but still have the private listening you can always download the free Roku Mobile app on your phone and either plug in headphones to your phone or use Bluetooth headphones with your phone for free private listening. The last option is to buy the Voice Remote Pro which is a universal remote that has private listening as well as a rechargeable remote, lost remote finder, hands-free and push-to-talk controls.

Sound is okay. Not much of a step up from any TV made in the last few years. The real problem is how unbelievably weak/slow the connection is. This thing lags worse than that fat rhino in Jumanji (the original). There is a full 3-5 second delay between pressing a button and anything happening on screen. The little baby Roku works a thousand times better than this thing. Over it. Thumbs down.

The streaming never worked as well as the separate device we used to have. Video was choppy and always had issues with picture quality. Decided to use the smart tv and the role stream bar for the sound. That worked for about a year and now it fades in and out all the time. Didn’t even get a good 2 years out of the devise. Truly disappointed in the quality. Would not recommend.

Could be better with power off and USB C power

It works well for the features advertised. I have it hooked up to a computer monitor. It would have been nice if the streamer had a power off button so that the monitor will go to standby. I did not see a way to stop sending signal to the display. The monitor can supply USBC power so if the unit had USB-C power input, it would be one less cable for me to run.

Worked great at first but after a fairly short while the sound became very distorted. Tried all the troubleshooting steps with no luck. The only way to use it now is to dial the bass down to it's lowest setting, Many others are posting similar problems.

Nice speaker, but cuts out while playing music from iPhone. I have to go back into my settings to reconnect. not sure why it keeps dropping. the speaker sounds great in my apartment. deep sound with deep bass. i don't crank the volume too high, but i have read that people that raise volume high, it doesn't sound distorted. i don't think speaker is really made for ranked up volume, its loud enough and sound sweet. i've had to lower my bass, and it's better.

I bought this for an ancient set up I have down in the basement. An old Sharp Aquos TV that I have with first gen HDMI inputs. Be aware that if you don’t have ARC hdmi, you’re going to have to use the optical cable provided. When I finished set up, I no longer had sound coming from my floor speakers going through an old technics receiver and to the tV with L/R audio cables. I tried everything to restore audio through my receiver to the floor speakers but there seems to be no way to do it. I got this sound bar because of the Airplay feature and didn’t think it would dominate all my other audio source which sounds better than this sound bar alone. I’d say the sound is like an upgraded clock radio. My floor speakers are superior through the receiver. If only I could restore them to work with this sound bar. But it seems as though I will eventually have to buy the Roku wireless speakers and subwoofer if I want to match the audio quality I had prior to this sound bar.

I bought the streambar for my bedroom TV. Already have roku built into my TV. Bought this just to increase the audio output. I do have to say that it has helped a lot with being able to hear my Tv. The downside for me is unlike the roku TV itself I'll unable to connect over the air antenna for local channels. And I'm unable to connect my VCR to it. I have the roku speakers for my roku TV in the living room And I love those speakers wishing I would have bought them for the bedroom also.

Good Sound - Slow Load

For the entire year I had this Streambar it was a fantastic value for the money. Powerful bass, clear acoustics, and a Roku Streaming stick all rolled into one device the size of an egg carton. Fills a small bedroom with incredible sound. All of that changed as soon as new versions of the OS came in and they did away with sound profiles like "bass boost", replacing it with worse ones like "standard", "movie", and whatever. These new profiles sound awful, almost as if they gimped the device on purpose. And to add insult to injury, the speakers started having issues with crackling and muffling, just a few months out of the warranty. Maybe I just have to play around with my setup in the hopes that I could improve the clarity and punch of the sound (because all the factory resets and troubleshooting techniques I could throw at it did absolutely nothing) but as it stands, this doesn't seem like a device that you'd be able to use for years, let alone one. Word of advice: Get a dedicated soundbar and a Roku player separately. Just because this device serves dual purposes doesn't mean that it excels in both.

I really like the way the streambar, subwoofer and 4 speakers work. However, the streaming part of this is not good. First, it is much slower than my other Roku devices. But the worst part is constant buffering and wifi drops. It is maddening. I have to go into settings and restart the system. That worked for a while, but now it is very temporary. I need to change to one of my other Roku devises, but I don't want to lose the speakers.

Hi Ken, thanks for taking a moment to share your feedback with us. It sounds like the WiFi connection could use a little boost. Signal strength can vary due to factors and we're here to help! We recommend visiting our FAQ article to walk through some helpful connection tips and resolutions: https://support.roku.com/article/213122277. As a tip, if your router offers a 5GHz network, we recommend connecting to it for improved network strength. Alternatively, it may also help to manually change the wireless channel. You can find more details about how to executive this linked in the FAQ article above. We hope this helps! Roku Customer Advocate

Do NOT purchase if your TV does not have an HDMI ARC port. Stream Bar will not work on basic HDMI unless it has the ARC designation. Probably will not work on video projector systems either. The return directions are so confusing that I was unable to return the device.

Hi Ronald, we're here to help! Please know that your Roku Streambar will work with any television with an available HDMI port. Without an HDMI ARC port you only need to connect an optical cable to your TV's optical output. For convenience, we've included an optical cable with your Streambar right in the box. When using an optical cable, be sure to remove the protective plastic cap from each end of the cable before inserting the connectors. Additionally, to use the optical port, visit the settings on your TV to make sure the output is enabled. Finally, it's worth nothing that sometimes the optical output on your TV is labeled "Digital audio out" or "Digital output". If you need further assistance, please visit us online at support.roku.com/contactus. We hope this helps to get you up and streaming! Roku Customer Advocate
