@captain.dox Today’s #ReadWithWeenie is: The End of Her by Shari Lapena 📚 (swipe for synopsis!) ⭐️⭐️ This one really missed the mark for me. There were so many characters that were introduced/mentioned so quickly it felt like I missed some chapters where you actually get to know who everyone is. Throughout the story I kept getting annoyed with all the characters, their actions, and how obvious and cliched everything felt. This was a pretty big disappointment since I actually like the idea of this plot, just not the execution at all. The ending was very rushed and ultimately fell flat. ❕Caution - mild spoilers ahead ❕ I had some issues with the story itself: 1) Stephanie had 2 million dollars in the bank but never hired a babysitter or nanny to help with the twins. She is so sleep deprived that she wasn’t sure if she left a pan on the stove and almost burned her house down with her and her children inside. This is explained away by her saying she tried to hire a babysitter once so she could take a nap but she couldn’t sleep through the babies crying. But why wouldn’t she hire someone (or ask her friend) to take the babies to the park (like she does everyday) so she can get some rest? So much of her motivation and reactions are fueled by her exhaustion and it just doesn’t make any sense. 2) Stephanie is able to walk into a bank and open her husband’s safety deposit box just because she has the key. This isn’t at all how safety deposit boxes work. If your name isn’t on the box, you can’t get in. 3) Stephanie could and should have also been required to testify at Patrick’s hearing as another witness to Erica’s blackmail attempt and stalking. It’s insane that Patrick’s lawyer wouldn’t have had her do it. Overall - this book felt like it was a first draft. It should have been edited and had some major issues ironed out. Let me know if you’ve read this one and what you thought! #TheEndofHer #ShariLapena #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #read #reading #readersofinstagram #readmorebooks #bookrecommendations #bookrecs #bookreview #bookreviews #bookreviewer #dachshund #dachshundsofinstagram #dogsofinstagram #dogsofbookstagram #petsofinstagram #petsofbookstagram

AN INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER!

"The End of Her will keep you guessing right up to the end . . . once you pick it up, you will not want to put it down."--USA Today

The new domestic suspense novel from the New York Times bestselling author of The Couple Next Door and Someone We Know

A long-ago accident--and a visitor from out of the blue. . .

Stephanie and Patrick are adjusting to life with their colicky twin girls. The babies are a handful, but even as Stephanie struggles with the disorientation of sleep deprivation, there's one thing she's sure of: she has all she ever wanted.

Then Erica, a woman from Patrick's past, appears and makes a disturbing accusation. Patrick had always said his first wife's death was an accident, but now Erica claims it was murder.

Patrick insists he's innocent, that this is nothing but a blackmail attempt. Still, Erica knows things about Patrick--things that make Stephanie begin to question her husband. Stephanie isn't sure what, or who, to believe. As Stephanie's trust in Patrick begins to falter, Patrick stands to lose everything. Is Patrick telling the truth--is Erica the persuasive liar Patrick says she is? Or has Stephanie made a terrible mistake?

How will it end?
