Q: Does this product pill with other skincare and/or cream makeup?

submitted by Victoria - 11 months ago
  • A: Hi there Victoria, I used this facial SPF as the last part of my skincare routine, and it absolutely pilled once, in addition to having a patchy/cakey application once it set in.

submitted byLauren - 7 months ago
  • A: Hey Victoria, Great question! The Versed Guards Up SPF should not pill up with the rest of your skincare/makeup routine. This oil-free formula has a creamy texture that blends in quickly and easily without leaving a chalky finish! For all your future beauty questions, get real-time answers using the “Chat with a Virtual Beauty Consultant” button, found on every product page.

  • A: Hi there, it depends on what you're wearing. With lighter, water-based products (like skin tints), as long as your fingers are clean and your application is gentle, Guards Up should work just fine over your makeup. With heavier, full-coverage products, you could run into some pilling. We hope this helps! Xx, Team Versed

Q: Is this a mineral or a broad spectrum sunscreen?

submitted by Jordan - 5 months ago
  • A: Hi there! This a broad spectrum and mineral sunscreen. For this product, the word “mineral” refers to the only active UV filter being utilized in the product which is zinc oxide. The word “broad spectrum” means this sunscreen protects against both UVA and UVB. All our SPF products have been tested to ensure they have broad spectrum capabilities. We hope this helps! Please reach out to our Versed customer care team if you have any more questions. Xx, Team Versed

Q: Is this reef safe? I love this sunscreen but am going to be snorkeling in the Keys and don’t want to harm the reefs.

submitted by Buy better - 5 months ago
  • A: Hi there, yes! Guards Up Daily Mineral Sunscreen is made with only one mineral UV filter, non-nano zinc oxide (the safest SPF active for our bodies and our oceans). Therefore, this product is reef safe! Please reach out to our Versed customer care team if you have any other questions. Xx, Team Versed

Q: Is this tinted? If so, how can that be for "all skin types"?

submitted by Laurel - 1 year ago
  • A: Guards Up has a peachy hue right out of the tube that disappears once smoothed into the skin. That warm hue helps eliminate the white, or even purplish, cast that zinc oxide is known to leave behind, particularly on darker skin tones, so it can blend seamlessly into all skin tones. It's been vetted and tested and tested again by dozens of people with varying skin tones to ensure it does just that.

Moisturizing, Yet Lightweight

I have very dry skin, and I struggle to find products that are sufficiently moisturizing without being greasy. This sunscreen is exactly that. *Not* greasy. I love the light tint. It's one of the only sunscreens I've used that truly has no white-cast. I even find that it evens out my skin tone a bit (neutral, light.) It's great in the wintertime months, but also light enough to use during the summer. As for the sun protection aspect, I've noticed no problems. I've worn it out without reapplying for a few hours (yes, I know you shouldn't do that, but sometimes I forget) and I haven't experienced any burns. I've been using this sunscreen since my favorite sunscreen got discontinued a few years back, and I don't plan on trying anything else.

This is my favorite mineral sun block! After trying SO MANY DIFFERENT kinds that left my face hard and white, this is my winner! I have even used it without makeup and still leaves my skin so soft! Amazing texture and good protection and lasts a good while too.

This is nice and light overall! It does still have some of the chalky feel initially but that seems to go away quickly and feels light on my skin, which is pretty sensitive and picky with products!

Worst Packaging Ever

So I bought this product a few months ago and the product itself is okay, not my favorite. The packaging on the other hand is awful, if you store this upright it leaks into the lid then you have a mess when you go to use it. Having to store it in weird ways was enough to make me not want to use it. I’d probably spend money on some of their other products like their dew point or skin soak moisturizers. Def back to the drawing board with this product

Nice texture & look but not for my sensitive skn

3 out of 5 stars
Amanda179 - 6 months ago

I really liked the texture (a light lotion that spreads easily) and the peachy tint doesn't leave a white cast on my skin. TBH my skin is pinky fair so IDK how it'll perform on darker skin tones but possibly ok. I also like the slight blurring affect it gives, even for red marks. After two weeks of daily use I've developed some red, itchy spots and even some hives, which disappeared after I stopped using this for a few days so if you have sensitive/eczematic skin just be aware. Otherwise it's a nice daily, matte sunscreen. Apply a serum and/or moisturizer underneath if you have dry skin though.

Sensitive skin beware

I purchased this to hold me over while I waited on a separate facial SPF order to arrive in the mail. The brand came recommend to me by a friend, who’s tried their other products and love them, and so I figured this mineral sunscreen would be safe for my oily-combination sensitive skin. On my first use, I was pleasantly surprised by its tint and how it applied over my skin, but noticed that I had some slight breakouts by the end of the day. I assumed that it was just my skin getting used to the product, but now that I’ve had the product for some time, on every subsequent use, I’ve continuously experienced severe burning/watering of my eyes, a splotchy, cake-y looking finish despite using a smaller amount, a clay-like pilling of the product after just an hour or two of wear, and increased breakouts. I was hoping this would be a good hold-over product for when my normal Korean skincare is unavailable, but I will definitely not be purchasing again.

Sensitive skin beware

Sensitive, eczema + breakout prone skin The tint on this was actually really nice, but it BURNS. And the day after use, I end up with an itchy face, which rarely happens. I know mineral doesn’t mean it’ll be good for sensitive skin, but this was bad. That said, tint is great. The texture is nice and it dries down nicely as well. I gave it to my mom to try and so far so good. TL/DR: Avoid this if you have sensitive skin. If not, give it a try.

Listen. I live in the Caribbean, the DR. And chemical sunscreens cannot go anywhere near my eyes. So I am always on a lookout for a mineral sunscreen with a tint. I love the finish of this sunscreen - does not leave me looking like a disco ball. But man oh man... I am an excursions guide and spent a day in the sea, more than 50% of the time in the shade, reapplying the sunscreen every 2 hours - got a HORRIBLE SUNBURN on my face, swollen and everything. Stay away of you live in a tropical climate. This does not protect.

Horrible for dry skin

APG - 9 months ago, Verified purchaser
I have dry skin, but after a week of using this, it made my skin extremely dry and scaly. My cheeks actually felt rough and this was the only product that was new in my skincare routine. As soon as I stopped using it, my skin started to soften again. I have never had that reaction with any other product before, even retinols. The tint wasn’t bad because I normally get white casts on my tan skin, but it didn’t say it was tinted on the packaging, so it was surprisingly. Overall, if you already have dry skin don’t get this sunscreen. I had to return it cause it was so bad.

When I first bought this product a few years ago I was SO happy to have finally found a sunscreen that was a great, semi-thick formula that also served as a primer and even a nice base to smooth pores and wear alone. Fast forward to the subsequent times I’ve purchased and they completely changed the consistency. It is soupy and messy and I dread putting it on my face. Does nothing to smooth or prime anymore. Such a bummer.

Not the worst but definitely not the best. I like that it’s more easy to rub into my skin without looking ghostly. I think people with drier skin will enjoy it. As it seems that sweat has a harder time escaping since this leaves more of a film, which for me I find annoying. If I’m putting it on and I’m already warm and putting makeup on over top it seems to hold my sweat in making harder to use under makeup and I just stay sweaty. I continue to use it until I find something better. Also, not sure if it’s doing enough as far as sun protection goes. And I apply liberally, and reapply midday. But I still get a bit pink. I tend to use it on my hands just to get rid of it quicker.
