Description

About the Book

"Where is the cat? Well, it depends on how you look at it. Our mischievous furry friend is under the wobbly table. And it is also on the blue rug, in the yellow room, in the pink house, next to the noisy park, in the crowded city, and even in the Milky Way galaxy. This charming and stylish picture book helps children learn their place in the larger world and reminds us that even when we are apart, we are all connected."--Back cover.

Book Synopsis

A colorful, joyful, and playful exploration of our world, and our place within it.

Where are you in the world? Can you imagine what your home would look like if you saw it from above and zoomed out further, and further, and further...? Join the mischievous pet cat on a journey of discovery that encourages young readers to think about their place in the world. Inspired by the feeling of being trapped inside and imagining the world beyond during the worldwide lockdowns, this enjoyable picture book reminds us that even when we are apart, we are all connected. The world keeps turning, a cat keeps purring, and children will find their happy place in the world.

Review Quotes

"This cleverly designed book uses a black cat as the centerpiece of where one is in relation to the world at large ... Locating the black cat amid the rainbow-colored pictures is half the fun ... The format, of no more than one question or sentence to a spread, allows for quick, effective reading and thinking. Characters shown are of varying ages and skin tones ... VERDICT For an age-appropriate lesson for educators and parents who want to provide children with perspective about their place in the world, this book is close to ideal."
- School Library Journal

"This engaging read-aloud opens the door for a number of classroom opportunities -- adjectives, prepositions, mapmaking! -- but its real power lies in stimulating a child's wonder and awe at the ever-expanding universe that surrounds us."
- The Horn Book

"We are but a small piece in this world."
- 2023 Texas Library Association 2X2 Reading List selection, recommended books for children age two to grade two

"Where is the black cat? The cat starts and ends under the wobbly table as the reader follows the cat from the specific to the truly universal. Uncluttered, simple illustrations provide visual information to the expanding scenes. A brilliant way to initiate discussions about our place in the world."

About the Author

Marie G. Rohde grew up in Sweden, surrounded by books, fabric, artists' materials, and a mix of different cultures. She studied architecture and loved imagining and illustrating. She relocated to Barcelona, Spain after becoming spellbound by the culture and vibrant illustration scene there. After earning her diploma, Marie started an illustrated blog about the fortunes and misfortunes of finding her way in a foreign city. It gathered a dedicated following in the Spanish-speaking world, and paved the way for Marie's illustration and print design career. Some years later, a life of varied studies and interests came together in her first book Planet SOS. This has been published in 14 languages and selected by the United Nations for its book club (Spanish-speaking section) for Sustainable Development. Marie's second book, Where in the World Are You?, was inspired by a story that her son invented during the first Covid lockdown in Spain, when time outside the home was limited.
