Q: What is the cuff made of? And the ties and beads?
A: This french press is made of stainless steel casing with a borosilicate glass carafe. This item does not contain cuffs ties or beads.
submitted byBodum - 4 years agoBrand expertA: "Brand expert" supplied this answer calling it a french press?? Please remove that answer to prevent further confusion. Thx
submitted byCat - 3 years agoA: This is not, as the first answer suggests, a french press. The cuff is made of cork and it seems like the strings are leather/pleather. Hope that helps!

Q: Can paper filters be used in lieu of the stainless steel filter?
A: I would use both as just the stainless steel filter still allows coffee sediment through. Don't want crunchy coffee.
submitted byDon - 4 years agoA: Yes, you absolutely can use paper filters in lieu of the included stainless steel filter if you would like. Enjoy!
submitted byBodum - 5 years agoBrand expertA: I use a paper filter when I don't want any grit in my coffee. I put it on top of the mesh filter to just give it a little support, and the paper doesn't fall into the bottom when I pour the water

Q: What is the little piece with three legs used for?
A: The black, plastic piece with the 3 "legs" and a ball on the other end is a lid for the glass container after you remove the filter.
submitted byLee - 5 years agoA: It fits perfectly at the neck with the legs pointing down. I guess it's for some tea or fruit infusion where bulky items don't get poured out...
submitted byStephanie - 5 years agoA: It is to help with pouring the coffee into your mug, but honestly I didn't see a difference in pouring without it, so I threw it in recycling.

Q: Do you need to use coarse grinds with this? Will fine grinds deep through? Also, which parts are dishwasher safe?
A: If you use fine grind I would also put a triangle shaped coffee filter with it to prevent the finest grounds from getting into your coffee.
submitted byLazypanda - 3 years agoA: For an optimal brew we recommend using a medium grind (in between coarse and fine). All parts except for the cork cuff are dishwasher safe. Enjoy!

Q: Do you need a goosneck kettle for this one?
A: From my personal experience I'd recommend a gooseneck kettle. I went electctric. I was using a standard tea kettle into a Pyrex and ended up spilling the near boiling water all over my hand. Been a month now and still recovering!
submitted byJohnB - 4 years agoA: For up to 1 hour max. The glass does not offer insulation.

Q: Has anyone tried this with the Chemex filters? Wondering how that works.
A: Our Pour Overs come with a permanent stainless-steel filter, so paper filters are not necessary. You can use paper filters in addition to the permanent filter, but this may increase brewing time and remove some of the essential oils that contribute to coffee’s flavor and aroma. We do not recommend using the carafe with only paper filters, as it is not designed for that purpose.

Q: Any paint or writing on this?
A: There is no paint or writing on the body of our 34 oz Pour Over with Cork Sleeve. There is a small, stenciled logo in white on the outside bottom of the carafe, along with the necessary manufacturer information.

Q: The box says to use medium ground coffee. Is that the same as medium roast?
A: Great question! "Medium ground coffee" refers to the size of the coffee grounds, not the roast of the beans. This means the coffee is ground to a medium consistency, and will be noted on bags of pre-ground coffee along with the roast. If you're grinding at home, aim for grounds slightly coarser than table salt. The roast level, whether it's light, medium, or dark, is a separate aspect and any roast will work perfectly in the Bodum Coffee Maker.

Q: what kind of coffee?Instant or grined
A: This product is for use with medium ground coffee beans.

Q: Is the glass able to take boiling water without shattering?
A: The glass carafe should not have boiling water poured into it. It is tested for and able to routinely accommodate water at an appropriate temperature for pour over (about 205 degrees Fahrenheit).
