Description

You are a monarch, like your parents before you, a ruler of a small pleasant kingdom of rivers and evergreens. Unlike your parents, however, you have hopes and dreams! You want a bigger and more pleasant kingdom, with more rivers and a wider variety of trees. You want a Dominion! In all directions lie fiefs, freeholds, and feodums. All are small bits of land, controlled by petty lords and verging on anarchy. All you have to do is bring civilization to these people, uniting them under your banner. But wait! It must be something in the air; several other monarchs have had the exact same idea. You must race to get as much of the unclaimed land as possible, fending them off along the way. To do this you will hire minions, construct buildings, spruce up your castle, and fill the coffers of your treasury. Your parents wouldn't be proud, but your grandparents would be delighted. In Dominion, each player starts with an identical, very small deck of cards. In the center of the table is a selection of other cards the players can "buy" as they can afford them. Through their selection of cards to buy and how they play their hands as they draw them, the players construct their deck on the fly, striving for the most efficient path to the precious victory points by game end.

Q: Is this game first edition or second edition? The two editions are different. If it is second edition it says it on the front.

submitted by Kenny - 6 years ago
  • A: The UPC is for first edition of game, you are correct thinking - second edition does say it in front of box though at times retailers fail to update the pictures. It would be wise to wait and get the second edition combination of intrigue and dominion base game. often comes around $55-60.

  • A: It doesn't say second edition on it but I bought it 1 1/2 years ago.

We all enjoyed playing this game. It's about 1/2 hour--perfect timing to be fun but not too lengthy. It's a new game each time since there are so many variations. Highly recommended family game!

Super bummed when this arrived and was a second edition. I definitely paid more for this than I needed because I was so excited I found a first edition to give to my dad. If you are looking for a first edition - this is not one.

This game is really easy to learn and comes with a lot of cards to create a different playing style each time. I've played both two and three players so far and it was enjoyable.

Such a fun family game! Fairly easy to learn and very versatile. With so many card combinations, every game is different and unique. I don't know how many times we've said "just one more round please?" because it's hard to stop once you get going. Definitely recommended!

Might be my new favorite game. Pretty cool game that is a mix of strategy and luck of the draw. The game can be different every time. You draw 10 kingdom (action) cards at the setup. There are probably 20-30 kingdom cards to choose from. You can manually choose or use the ranomizer cards. The randomize is a deck of one of each card. You shuffle and choose 10 randomly. There are your 10 cards you setup the game with. Lots of different strategies each time based on the kingdom/action cards. Great for 2+ players. depending on what action cards are in play, the game can be quite different each time.

My teenage son played Dominion at a friend's house and loved it. Another family recommended the game as well. We got it for our 6 kids ages 12-20 and it is the first game they play when waking up on Christmas break.

I love this game! Requires more concentration and strategy that you may expect at first. More than Settlers of Catan. The only pieces are cards, which is nice. Each round/time you play is uniquely different depending on what sets of cards you pick. This is best played with people who don't mind strategizing and focusing etc. Know who you're playing with, it's not catchphrase or apples to apples. Lots of fun! The game itself is very nicely made and should last a while.

I have had this game on my "want to buy" list for a long time, and finally got it. Game is very easy to learn, and I played it three times with my kids over Thanksgiving vacation. It's pretty addictive, and now I have my eye on expansion sets.

Game box was delivered crushed

Nothing wrong with the game inside, as it is comprised completely of cards, but the box must have been crushed by a forklift. There were holes in the box and the divider inside was ripped, yet the plastic wrap was intact. Whiskey didn't happen during shipping either, as the shipping box was unbent and had air pillows to protect the cargo inside. The only way it could have been damaged was if it were damaged before being put in the shipping box. So that's pretty frustrating to me. Great game though. Everyone should have a copy.

I was a little worried when I bought this game because I thought it might be a little too complicated for my wife who doesn't like games they that are extremely complicated (or that require reading and knowing what various card do). However, I was surprised and delighted that she really enjoyed it I love the many different cards even though you don't use all of them each time you play. This allows for a lot of replay value as each game can be different. After getting the hang of the cards it is very simple and a lot of fun.

Dominion is excellent. The included rulebook describes every aspect of the game in simple terms AND heavy detail. It's easy to set up the first game, and once you know the basics, there is infinite variety since you only play with 10 of the 25 included cards. Is rated 14-up, but our 9-year-old plays with no trouble. Dominion is fun in more serious board game settings, too. There are expansion packs that add even more depth, and you can play with more than 4 people.

Okay so this is not my favorite game but its a decent card building game once you get the hang of it. The strategy for the game is to get the most victory points. This varies by which action cards you get. My partner loves this game and that's why I bought it. It also has expansions you can play with to add more cards. It is fun to get different types of cards and actions in the game...I'd say it's worth playing first (if you can) if you aren't sure about it, but if you are leaning towards it, then go ahead and get it.

Bought this as a Christmas present for my college aged brother in law and he loved it! We played a lot over the Christmas weekend and it was super easy to learn and very fun. The only problem we ran into was that it was only for 4 players without the expansion, so I wouldn't recommend it if you're looking for a bigger group game.
