Q: Is this real gel nails polish that needs to be cured with light? Or just a “gel like nail polish”?

A: Hi there NC! We agree, the gel-setter top coat, gives your nails gel like shine and long wear...but no need for special UV lamps or difficult removal. Comes off with you usual polish remover as well.

I've been using this top coat now for a year, it's long lasting and makes my nails shine and it's long lasting. I've read comments saying it's goopy and thick, I find if that happens with nail polish, place it in the refrigerator, it helps! You can also put a tiny drop of nail polish remover in the bottle to break up any thickness as well, hope this helps!

Best topcoat I’ve found in a while. The only issues I have with it is it gets thick and sticky before finishing a bottle and the edges tend to shrink/retract itself and the nail polish at the tops/ends of the nails, so it appears though the nail polish is chipping.

This top coat is super shiny, dries quickly, and extends my manis at least a week. Plus, it actually smoothes out bubbles and smudges. It’s truly the best top coat I’ve ever used! Please don’t ever stop making it.

Essie over the years, you have received chipping reviews after a day or so of use, with nothing activity. I experienced the same. I followed your normal application response to other reviewers. Are you planning to revisit your formula to improve these customer quality concerns? Also, I actually love the gel setter shine.

Holy smokes the shine on this is blinding!!! It leaves my nails with the perfect thickness and shine. I constantly get asked if I’m wearing gel on my nails or salon mani! It also fixes any imperfections such a dents or brush stroke from horrible polishes. People have mentioned that it thickens and it’s sadly true but personally I don’t experience it until there 1/4 left or polish. To keep it from thickening these are helpful tips. Don’t wipe excess polish off on the top of rim only inside. Only store upright in a cool place. Don’t shake it instead roll it between your hands!! Lastly if it does thicken leave a big glob on the brush then place it near the cuticle area and use a different clean brush to spread on nail and cap it (I use my brush used for gel builder in a container then clean brush by soaking it in nail polish never and wipe clean with cuticle oil).

This is by far the best top coat. My nails don’t chip and it dries so fast. I take my own Essie to the nail salon. Great stuff! Not sure why some people are giving it negative reviews. One layer and you’re good to go.

This was fine at first but after a couple of uses it went extremely thick and sticky. Unusable. It’s going in the trash after only 2 or 3 uses. What a waste of money.

I really wanted this gel top coat to work but after a few uses, the entire bottle started getting thick and goopy. It got too difficult to get a smooth finish so I couldn’t even use half the bottle before it was useless.

I used to be a big fan of Sally Hansen's Big Shiny Top Coat. Sadly, it was discontinued. I found Essie's gel-setter and gave it a try. Wow. Flawless application, dries fairly fast, does not bubble, and definitely delivers that gel coat look and feel- plump, glossy, and chip/scratch resistant for great longevity. I'm in love with my new go-to top coat. <3

I applied this a couple days after I did my nails and it made them look like just I got them done. I definitely recommend it. It gives a nice thick shiny coat. I used on top of Olive & June nail polish and top coat in my opinion Essie is a better top coat

I am so disappointed I spent any money on this. I figured I would give it a try because I like the polish as a whole and I wanted to give my nails a break after having the professional done. After less than 24 they are chipped and peeling like crazy. I figured with the “gel like finish” it would be sturdy then everyday activities. I’d also like to add I have already repaint my thumbs before this picture was taken. So don’t waste your time or money on this top coat.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I like to paint my nails and toes but struggle with the paint chipping after a couple days. Well let me tell you, it works. My nails on average last almost two weeks after applying the nail setter. I use any nail polish too!!
