Q: Is this a good computer for a college student for 4 years?
A: Please know that you can switch out of S Mode so you can download any non-Windows store programs.

Because this computer is running Windows in "S Mode" it can only download and run apps that are in the Windows Store. If you need any apps for your courses, they'll need to be in the Windows Store. If not, Then unfortunately it wouldn't be a good choice.

Q: new to computers.....what is S mode?
A: "S Mode" is a suite of high security settings on some computers that greatly reduces the chances of your computer getting infected with malware. The most obvious thing you'd see is that you can only download apps that are available in the Windows Store.

Q: how to brighten the screen up? I've did it from settings but just seems dual looking to me
A: Thank you for reaching lout. The 15-dy2005tg laptop has a Brightview display of 220 nits - that should be fairly vibrant. Please check your settings to be certain you have the brightness at 100% (you can also use the function keys). Note that if you are using on power saving, the screen will dim slightly when used with battery power only. This can also be changed in settings, but increasing the screen brightness on battery power only will reduce the battery life.

Q: If you want to turn off the touchscreen feature, can you? and if you can, how?
A: Yes, you can disable the touch screen feature on this laptop. Select Device Manager from the dropdown that should appear in the lower-left corner of your desktop. Select “Human Interface Devices” from the new window. Select your touch screen display from the sub-list. Right-click or use the Action dropdown to select “Disable device.”

Q: This says Intel Pentium - is it an i5 or i7
A: Thank you for the question. This laptop has a Pentium processor. (i5 and i7 processors have more cores and typically operate at faster speeds). Pentium processors are just fine for less demanding applications and operating systems like Windows 10 in S Mode, as with the HP 15-dy2005tg, especially with 87GB of RAM.
