When you unfold the stool, make sure to open the two short sides completely. As you fold the stool open, the two top halves press against each other at the middle hinge (right under the handle). As you step on the stool, your weight pushes the middle section down and out, which helps the hinges stay tight and the legs firmly in place. So while nothing “clicks” or locks into place, the stool naturally holds itself open thanks to this strong center hinge and the downward pressure from your body weight.
