Q: HI! I am a strawberry blonde but I went blonde. What is semipermanent? Would my hair fade and go back to the blonde it is now?

  • A: Hello! The Color Depositing Conditioners are used to add fun color to hair and refresh hair color. Please note, since your hair is pre-lightened it will likely deposit the color pigments more intensely. We would highly recommend performing a strand test on a small section of your hair prior to applying it entirely on your full head of hair. Results will vary greatly and the timing of how long it will last is mostly based on the porosity and natural color of your hair.

Q: going from blonde to brown and need to put red/orange pigments back into my hair to prevent it from fading out grey/green. I was thinking of using copper penny before I add the brown. will this work?

submitted by Miao - 2 years ago
  • A: Hello Miao, the Kristin Ess Color Depositing Conditioner is great way to add copper tones in your hair to prevent green tones when hair color fades. For real-time answers to all your beauty questions, use the “Chat with a Virtual Beauty Consultant” button on any beauty product page!

Q: My hair has been previously died red I just want to brighten up the faded color before a wedding I'm in will the dark mauve be to dark on my faded red hair?

submitted by AD - 2 years ago
  • A: Hello! Our best recommendation would be to perform a patch test to ensure the color is to your liking. Since most red shades vary greatly it would be difficult to know how it will take to your own unique hair color and tone.

Q: Hello! I have medium to light (but not platinum) honey blonde hair. Which colors would show up best, and do they reflect natural highlights? I only mention I’m naturally blonde because some colors either wash right out or “stain” it in a patchy way.

submitted by Simon1 - 3 years ago
  • A: Hello! We would recommend staying within the pastel range since you are blonde. The richer colors are best for darker hair (ie: Celestial Skies). You can also mix this with your non-pigmented conditioner for a more subtle result. As always, it is highly recommended to perform a patch test to see how the color will adhere to your hair prior to applying it all in your hair.

Q: Would terra-cotta or mauve work with salt and pepper hair? Does it eventually completely wash out or will there always be some staining?

submitted by melza - 3 years ago
  • A: Hello! Yes, either of these colors will work on salt and pepper hair. We highly recommend performing a patch test to ensure you are pleased with the results prior to applying them all over your hair.

Q: Do you think dark mauve is for me if I have dark brown hair and want a dye that'll wash out in less than a month? I read that some people's were lasting like 4 months!

submitted by Jade - 3 years ago
  • A: Hello! Thanks for your question. Our Color Depositing Conditioners are semi-permanent, we would advise against applying the color depositing conditioners if you are looking for a more temporary color application.

Q: What shades of hair does this work with? Will it color dark brown hair or does it only work on blond or bleached hair?

submitted by Wei - 3 years ago
  • A: Hello! Thanks for your question. The celestial skies shade is best for darker hair colors for a nice blue-black look. Our Lavender Smoke and Coral Rose shades show up best on lighter hair shades (ie: blonde and light brown). Our Terracotta and Dark Mauve shades work for all hair colors and will show very well in the sun on darker hair colors. We hope this helps!

Q: So when I allowed my sister to do my hair platinum (I usually go to a salon as the frame of my face is naturally gone white and the rest is peppered with dark & white) when she toned it had a greenish hue. I was told to use a red to remove greenish hue

submitted by Flight Attendant - 3 years ago
  • A: Hello! Thanks for your question. Our Color Depositing Conditioners are intended to add color to the hair and not recommended for color correction purposes. We would highly recommend consulting with your hair colorist to better assist with counteracting the green tones on your hair.

Q: Does this come out after a few washes? How long will it last?

submitted by Piruli - 3 years ago
  • A: Hello! Although the time frame varies greatly for everyone, it could last anywhere between 6-8 weeks. To help preserve the color, we recommend using a color-safe shampoo, and to help expedite removal, you may use a clarifying shampoo.

Terracotta is BRIGHT red and doesn’t wash out/fade, melted off all my hair trying to get the color out. Maybe it’s only meant for wet hair or needs to be diluted but I think “color depositing conditioner” was a little misleading

I love the Mauve. I always get so many compliments when I use it. I have bleached streaks on the bottom layers of my hair, and it shows up bright fuchsia in those. The rest of my naturally brown hair turns a beautiful dark auburn color. I love it. It is very staining, so wear gloves and use bleach to get out of your shower. I wish they would include gloves in the packaging!

Terracotta is bright red and does not come out after many attempts!

I should have read all the reviews more carefully before trying this. I mixed the Terracotta shade with conditioner (60% conditioner) and applied it to wet hair, only leaving it on for 5-8 minutes as I wanted to start slow... ha! It turned my medium brown hair a bright red color and was soooo messy - it got all over everything and didn't come off easily. Even stained the porcelain sink even though I rinsed it immediately. Right after applying, I washed my hair and it looked like a lot of product came out, but it was still way too bright red (nothing like the color indicated on the bottle). This was two weeks ago and I have since used clarifying shampoo a few times, plus white vinegar and also a dandruff shampoo / baking soda mix and nothing gets this out. So annoying! I feel I might have to pay a professional to fix it, and/or cut my hair. I agree it's not a color depositing conditioner but more like a semi-permanent stain. What's worse - it doesn't color my errant greys at all. Definitely would not recommend.

False advertising. Should not be called a color depositing conditioner. This is a semi-permanent dye. It is astonishing that the use directions do not note to wear gloves. This has ruined my hair tone as terracotta color is also mid-advertised and is a horribly fake red color. Shame on the company. This should be taken off the shelves and repackaged and identified with correct description and directions.

Best Way to Keep Colored Hair

I have blue blue hair and I love this stuff so much. Hair dye takes a toll on your hair so being able to touch up my color without dying it again is super convenient and keeps my hair a lot healthier. I use the blue most of the time, but I have tried the other colors too. It is really pigmented, pretty, smells amazing, and keeps my hair conditioned vs what a color depositing shampoo would do. It also lasts for a ton of washes. (photo is after a few washes without using product, but the first condition color is super saturated and pretty)

I got my hair done a while back and got it very dark brown with some red peekaboos, they had faded to a light brownish color after a few months(which was completely expected) i saw this product on clearance at my local target and decided to try it. It worked very well! i apply it all over my head and let it set for 10 mins while i do the rest of my shower, and when i'm done my peekaboos look as if i had gotten them redone, and it doesn't seem to affect the rest of my hair which is perfect. i will say it does stain but it's personally not a deal breaker for me. i just try to get it in my hair as quickly as possible and then immediately wash my hands when i'm done applying (would def recommend using gloves tho) overall i love this product!

Love the color in my blonde hair! Love that it smells nice! And you Only need to leave it on for 1-3 mins (if your hair is light colored) to get only to last for 1-2 weeks! If washes out SLOWLY which is nice if you’re touching it up over time! WEAR GLOVES or wash your hands/skin IMMEDIATELY after it’s in your hair and you’re waiting! It comes off, but takes a day! I’ve found the best way to get it off my hands is the KE shampoo! Any hair you want to keep natural or another color needs to be out of the way until your rinse water runs clear! I do my front pieces for a few mins every 2 weeks!

Pros: unique color and very pigmented Con: WAY TOO PIGMENTED! So I read the reviews before purchasing and I thought the other people were just unfamiliar with fun colored dyes but OMG they were not exaggerating! This stains everything- your hands, your face, your body as it runs down it when you rinse it out, your shower walls, the bottom of your feet, your towel and your pillowcase (even if you completely dry your hair before going to sleep). At first I was like, the color pay off is worth it—but then after one wash the color pay off was faded. Then every shampoo for the next 5+ washes it still turned the suds teal and stained my hands. Still stains the pillow case and some shirts if it gets sweaty and then rubs on the collar. Honestly. Not worth it. I wanted to try a less expensive and more convenient brand than overtone—but I will be going back to overtone for my fun color. Also it’s not even conditioning. Why?

Okay so i got this before reading reviews. I won’t give it a one star. But not five either. So the key is. THE TRICK IS. You have to mix literally the smallest bit with conditioner. I mixed mine in a smaller dish then just scooped out what I wanted with even more conditioner. It is a dye. And it is very bright if not diluted. I also shampooed after I did it just so I got the warm auburn ginger color I wanted. Idk if I’ll try it again or recommend it just because of how complicated it is. But that’s my trick and how I used it. I also did a test strip before I did my whole head. One strip of blonde highlights and one strip of my natural brown. So what have we learned today? -DITUTE! -TEST BEFORE USE. That’s the end of my Ted talk. Thanks for coming. (My hair is still partially wet in the photos)

I never write reviews but on this product I had to. I was sceptical buying this at first because I have never seen any kind of purple conditioner that actually works. I also read all the negative reviews but figured those were just for the terracotta color. I bough the Lavender Smoke and I had no issues using it whatsoever and the best part is that it actually took a lot of brassiness out of my hair. I was positively surprised and can only recommend. Would definitely buy again. Very happy with the results!

I don't use this as intended becasue I don't want purple highlights, but I found this to be a very effective toner for my highlighted hair. It gives you that smoky ash blonde looks that blends well with my look since I'm trying to blend in my grays. I do 5 minutes in the shower on damp hair. Try it, you wont regret it, and it doesn't stain your hands/shower and also last longer than a typical purple shampoo or toner

Used this as directed: wore gloves, applied to damp hair, left in for 7 minutes. Toned down all the yellow in my bleached hair and left a soft, ashy smoke on the lightest highlights. No staining of any of my white porcelain tiles, no staining on hairline or scalp. Not sure how it will build in future applications, but I am sold either way!
