Q: HI! I am a strawberry blonde but I went blonde. What is semipermanent? Would my hair fade and go back to the blonde it is now?

submitted by Ash - 11 months ago
  • A: Hello! The Color Depositing Conditioners are used to add fun color to hair and refresh hair color. Please note, since your hair is pre-lightened it will likely deposit the color pigments more intensely. We would highly recommend performing a strand test on a small section of your hair prior to applying it entirely on your full head of hair. Results will vary greatly and the timing of how long it will last is mostly based on the porosity and natural color of your hair.

Q: going from blonde to brown and need to put red/orange pigments back into my hair to prevent it from fading out grey/green. I was thinking of using copper penny before I add the brown. will this work?

submitted by Miao - 5 months ago
  • A: Hello Miao, the Kristin Ess Color Depositing Conditioner is great way to add copper tones in your hair to prevent green tones when hair color fades. For real-time answers to all your beauty questions, use the “Chat with a Virtual Beauty Consultant” button on any beauty product page!

Q: My hair has been previously died red I just want to brighten up the faded color before a wedding I'm in will the dark mauve be to dark on my faded red hair?

submitted by AD - 1 year ago
  • A: Hello! Our best recommendation would be to perform a patch test to ensure the color is to your liking. Since most red shades vary greatly it would be difficult to know how it will take to your own unique hair color and tone.

Q: Hello! I have medium to light (but not platinum) honey blonde hair. Which colors would show up best, and do they reflect natural highlights? I only mention I’m naturally blonde because some colors either wash right out or “stain” it in a patchy way.

submitted by Simon1 - 1 year ago
  • A: Hello! We would recommend staying within the pastel range since you are blonde. The richer colors are best for darker hair (ie: Celestial Skies). You can also mix this with your non-pigmented conditioner for a more subtle result. As always, it is highly recommended to perform a patch test to see how the color will adhere to your hair prior to applying it all in your hair.

Q: Would terra-cotta or mauve work with salt and pepper hair? Does it eventually completely wash out or will there always be some staining?

submitted by melza - 1 year ago
  • A: Hello! Yes, either of these colors will work on salt and pepper hair. We highly recommend performing a patch test to ensure you are pleased with the results prior to applying them all over your hair.

Q: Do you think dark mauve is for me if I have dark brown hair and want a dye that'll wash out in less than a month? I read that some people's were lasting like 4 months!

submitted by Jade - 2 years ago
  • A: Hello! Thanks for your question. Our Color Depositing Conditioners are semi-permanent, we would advise against applying the color depositing conditioners if you are looking for a more temporary color application.

Q: What shades of hair does this work with? Will it color dark brown hair or does it only work on blond or bleached hair?

submitted by Wei - 2 years ago
  • A: Hello! Thanks for your question. The celestial skies shade is best for darker hair colors for a nice blue-black look. Our Lavender Smoke and Coral Rose shades show up best on lighter hair shades (ie: blonde and light brown). Our Terracotta and Dark Mauve shades work for all hair colors and will show very well in the sun on darker hair colors. We hope this helps!

Q: So when I allowed my sister to do my hair platinum (I usually go to a salon as the frame of my face is naturally gone white and the rest is peppered with dark & white) when she toned it had a greenish hue. I was told to use a red to remove greenish hue

submitted by Flight Attendant - 2 years ago
  • A: Hello! Thanks for your question. Our Color Depositing Conditioners are intended to add color to the hair and not recommended for color correction purposes. We would highly recommend consulting with your hair colorist to better assist with counteracting the green tones on your hair.

Q: Does this come out after a few washes? How long will it last?

submitted by Piruli - 2 years ago
  • A: Hello! Although the time frame varies greatly for everyone, it could last anywhere between 6-8 weeks. To help preserve the color, we recommend using a color-safe shampoo, and to help expedite removal, you may use a clarifying shampoo.

Lavendar Smoke for Cool/Ash Blonde toning 4 Highlights!

I don't use this as intended becasue I don't want purple highlights, but I found this to be a very effective toner for my highlighted hair. It gives you that smoky ash blonde looks that blends well with my look since I'm trying to blend in my grays. I do 5 minutes in the shower on damp hair. Try it, you wont regret it, and it doesn't stain your hands/shower and also last longer than a typical purple shampoo or toner

Used this as directed: wore gloves, applied to damp hair, left in for 7 minutes. Toned down all the yellow in my bleached hair and left a soft, ashy smoke on the lightest highlights. No staining of any of my white porcelain tiles, no staining on hairline or scalp. Not sure how it will build in future applications, but I am sold either way!

Like the other reviews say, Terracotta is little mermaid red. I am so angry I could cry. I just ruined my $200 hair color. It doesn’t even go on well. My hair is so patchy. I use the terracotta gloss and I love it and figured this conditioner would be good. WRONG. Kristin Ess you owe me $250+ for the color correction im about to have to pay for!!

This is going to stain you and everything you love. The bottle says “gently deposits color” but it’s more like ultra strong hair dye. Unless you have dark hair, this is going to result in the most neon version of whatever color you picked. Terracotta = Fire Truck Red. It doesn’t deposit evenly either, so you’re likely to have splotchy miscolored hair. Try literally anything else.

Made my hair super soft and healthier than before. Color is hard to say, I think depends a lot on where you hair is at the start but gave me a deep dense fire red that fades slightly more copper. I wore gloves and used an abrasive cleaner like Ajax to remove tub stains. Maybe next time I will dilute with conditioner but I wish it was more orange than red. First pic during application, immediately after and after a few shampoos.

This is horrible. I got the dark mauve color - it is a gorgeous color according to the box. Followed instructions (did wear gloves even though the instructions don’t tell you to do this). I have darker hair but my hair is literally bright pink/purple. It’s horrible. Absolutely nothing like what the box suggests your hair will look like. Reading other reviews about how long this stays on your hair is making me nervous!!! Stained absolutely everything as well. Please don’t buy this. Not including photos because I’m literally so embarrassed

This stuff WORKS! I have pretty dark hair that was colored a “mulled wine” kinda color about a month ago. I like hot showers and the color had faded slightly so I thought I’d give it a try. Applied for 20ish minutes on dry hair, rinsed it out and washed as normal, and it looks like the color is fresh! CONS: smell is a little strong. Also colored EVERYTHING pink in my shower but that mostly washed off. I love Kristin Ess & her products. I’ve used them as a blonde, brunette and now a burgundy/redhead and this is yet another winner!

So this is my 3rd fall/winter season using the terracotta and I'm still on the first bottle. Yes it does get messy, but I've learned some tricks. You'll need an old towel, old washcloth, and solo cup. After I shampoo my hair and comb it with my fingers, I sit in the shower (this reduces the splashes and staining). I take a couple pumps of my normal conditioner and add the color to it and mix it together in my hands. I feel like this helps add moisture. I comb the color through my hair with my fingers. After I apply, I put it in a low bun. Take your washcloth and get any stains/splashes. It helps if you use a little soap with it. Stay sitting and rinse the color out after the 10-15 minutes. I tilt my head over and do the underneath first and then turn around and rinse out the top. Use your washcloth/solo cup again to get any stains. Dry your hair with an old towel because you will get color on it. I also sleep on an old towel the first few night, but anything that has gotten on fabric I am able to get out with shout remover. Store your conditioner in your solo cup so it doesnt stain anything. I only wash my hair every 5-7 days and reapply every 2-3 times so this lasts me a long time. My hair is naturally auburn and this intensifies the red. It saves me a lot of money and my neice says I look like Ariel :)

The first time I use this product I used the wet method. I have medium length medium brown hair with highlights. The first photo is right afterwards application and the second photo is from three weeks later. If you do not own your house, do not use this. Everything it touches it stains. My shower is still stained red. My toilet is stained red. My bathroom door is stained red. It definitely deposits a good amount of color into your hair. However, it washes out for weeks. And your clothes, for the first couple days afterwards are going to be stained. It should've came with gloves. I feel like it is false advertisement, saying a "color depositing conditioner" definitely is hair dye. I will say I don't have any of the sting or burning that traditional hair dye can give you. I did use it a second time for the wet method to refresh the already colored hair from three weeks earlier. the last photo is from the wet method and it looks pretty similar as the first time I used it.But I would not recommend this or use it again.

I cannot believe how pigmented this is - it says to wear gloves in small writing not on the back of the box which felt misleading and about 1 minute into applying it I realized it was staining my skin and everything else it touched. I left it in my wet hair for less then 3 minutes, and a month later it is still very red NOT terracotta or copper like it said, super disappointing.

I used the mauve and my hair looks like I professionally dyed it. I had a brown red color that faded into a copper tone. I really wanted to go back to a deep red and this worked perfectly. DEFINITELY USE GLOVES! It stains quickly and really deeply. I used the scrub daddy paste to remove it from my tub and sink. I might even use the gloves in the shower next time too. But it definitely gets the job done.

I bought the coral rose color. I have used better color conditioners in the past. When I squeezed this out I could tell it was very light compared to other brands. I only did part of my hair because I didn’t think I’d have enough for my full head. I also left it in for 30 minutes. So you can see my natural color and then also the coral it barely changed to. After one wash it’s also very faded.

Love the color without harsh damage to my hair. If you do not color your hair deep reds, then you won't be used to color bleed or tranfer. to my shock it was not as "bad" as I was expecting. I applied to dry clean hair. I've used this stuff 3 times and have not been disappointed. Dark muave has not disappointed.

So this stuff really WORKS. I bought it to help add some color to the ends of my hair that I missed/didn't take the copper color i used - copper over level 9 blonde - but man this is NOT terracotta, this is red and it really adds color. I definitely assumed, as a color depositing conditioner, it wouldn't pack much of a punch but it did. But it's a good price, and now i know to dilute it with conditioner. Also - WEAR GLOVES.
