Disconnects and incompatible with HDMI ARC

I’ve owned about 10 various sound bars over the years, Bose, Yamaha, Samsung, Vizio, and this is hands down the absolute worst sound bar I have ever used. I kept it for about a year to give it a chance but despite spending hours changing settings and updating firmware, it’s just as bad as the day we bought it. The worst quality is it’s inability to stay connected to the subwoofer via bluetooth. We created an insulated subwoofer box inside the media cabinet for it about 7 ft away from the primary speaker but it barely stays connected - maybe 10% of the time. So we moved it outside about 7 ft away, it stays connected about 50% of the time. The only way to get 100% connection which is a very low bar considering hardwired connections solved this a century ago, is to have it sitting on a table within direct view of the speaker. Annoying. But I was willing to get over it. It also has incompatibility issues with HDMI ARC. I’m not sure of the specifics but every now and then the sound from my TV will just cut out and won’t start again until I disconnect and reconnect the HDMI or I reconfigure the audio settings in the TV. It happens every 2-3 viewing sessions which makes this untenable. I can confirm it’s a speaker issue, not a TV one because my other Yamaha sound at works great. Sadly, it sounds pretty good for a $100-200 speaker. But because of the above issues, I am going to dispose of it. I don’t feel comfortable selling it, despite it being in like new condition, because it’s garbage.

Subwoofer doesn't stay connected. Sent it in to LG to get repaired, they kept it for 5 months before sending it back and within 4 minutes the sub is disconnecting again. I have the sub right next to it, away from wifi or anything that could interfere and it still does it. Can't find my target receipt because I mailed my copy to LG and they kept it. So now I'm stuck with it. Stick with a different brand

I bought the sound bar for a sanyo TV and couldn't use it as the TV didn't have an optical input. I felt the sound bar was well built from the weight and quality appearance so I decided to keep the sound bar and bought a LG 86in. TV and use it. When I connected the sound bar I was impressed with the sound quality and a very nice bass addition. Wether it's music or a movie you will hear everything happening.

400 Watts, same little 33watt sub from the 200watt unit? Smh

This is advertised as a 400watt system. The sound bar is slightly more powerful than the older 200 watt bar system. However, they use the same cheap 33 watt ish sub from the smaller 200 watt system. While the voices are louder, the system fails to perform as a proper 400 watt system due to the small, weak sub. This would be wonderful if they didnt pair it with a 4inch sub from every other cheap system they make. It would be a perfect system if it had a bigger subwoofer, one more properly sized for a 400 watt system. This is not good for music, or loud movies where you'd like to hear some sub. If you go higher than half the volume the bass will be choppy and distorted thanks to the weak little sub. I'm returning this piece of junk.

Bluetooth subwoofer continually loses connection.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have had this sound bar system with bluetooth subwoofer approximately 6 months and have had trouble with the subwoofer bluetooth intermittently losing connection the entire time, even after sending it in to LG for repair twice. The Bluetooth subwoofer unit was completely replaced and it took no more than 15 minutes to hear it dropping out again , despite placement of the subwoofer... in front , to the side , to the other side ...all within 10 feet of the main unit. If they had a cable connection option I would be fine with that , but no luck. I don't want to listen to this any more.

The LG SLM7Y/5Y is total Junk

I really can't understand a company like LG being able to design such a fastastic TV as the OLED just to make such a piece of junk sound bar. I purposely bought 2 of these to go with 2 brand new LG TV's thinking the should work great LG to LG right? Wrong. Here's the rub when I first hooked everything up using HDMI-ARC the soundbar came on with the TV, at the time the soundbar was identified as a SLM7Y, probably a special unit made for Target. Everything worked great, but this was only for a month or so. Soon the TV's (both of them) would turn on but the sound bar did not. I contacted LG tech support and was told to reset them which I did following their instruction. Again back on line but it was short lived within a few weeks they both failed to power up with the TV. After a number of searchs on the web apparently this is a known problem with some LG sound bars using HDMI-ARC connections. Calling LG tech support was worthless and obviously I knew more about the situation then they did. They advised me the could not find any documentation about these sound bars nor was their a software download for it like the other LG sound bars with the same problem. Again I was told to do another reset which I did and we were back online. They advised me to see if the problems came back and if so to schedule for a refurbished unit replacement. They also suggested it might be the TV's. Come on, 2 brand new LG TV with matching sound bars both bad. They also suggested trying using different inputs into the soundbar such as bluetooth. There ultimate solution was to power on the sound bar with the remote or power switch then turn the TV on which is now what I do. What is sad is I purposely didn't buy the better rated Yamaha sound bar because I didn't want to have compatibility problems with it. So to sum it up, the HDMI-ARC auto turn on and off doesn't work as it should and you will be forced to manually turn on both the sound bar first then the TV. There is a fix for this problem but apparently it will no apply to the SLM7Y (now SLM5Y). LG soundbar tech support is a total joke, they don't have a clue and won't solve your problem if you call them. So buy ANY OTHER soundbar other then the LG. Do yourself a big favor and just pass on this sound bar.

Easy set-up; Good Quality Sound

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Wife and I bought this about 6 months ago, and it was working perfectly fine. Until one day the bass started going out mid-shows. Not sure what caused it, but fortunately we were still within the warranty period. We sent the sound bar, along with the sub-woofer to LG to get it repaired. The process was seamless and fast. The repaired product is already on it's way back, and I can't wait to have it again.
